EBS multicomp vs. ross clones

i own a multicomp which is fantastic, but i have recently been gas-ing for a barge rc-3. the closest i have ever come to a ross clone is the mxr dynacomp, but the noise (or rather the attraction of the lack of noise of the multicomp) and most importantly the high compression ratios of the dynacomp which i didn't need at the time led me to replace it with a multicomp.

that was then. this is now. i'm using fuzz and flangers more intensively than ever before, and i figured that a ross-type compressor would be more suitable. this is because with all the shit in my chain, "transparent" is really not on the agenda anymore.

i've also had much joy in blending in my clean using my LS-2, which i may swap for a barge VB-jr, so i think the time is right to go for heavier compression

my concern is that i have been spoiled by the noiselessness of the multicomp. the multicomp is also right up there with the demeters and the keeleys, so to step away from it makes me uneasy. has anyone had experience with both the multicomp as well as one of the ross clones?

if you're afraid of moving to a different level (whether higher/lower) you could try the keeley... it's basically a modded ross circuit :)

ross is basically an FX manufacturer, and they make compressors. the circuit that they used for their compressors have been copied/modded by countless other manufacturers, such as keeley and analogman. i'm not sure if the ross uses the mxr dynacomp design, or if it's the dynacomp that uses the ross design. maybe someone can clarify :)

frankly i've never seen a ross compressor in my life. the barge rc-3 that's i'm eyeing is a clone of the grey ross compressor, with several tweaks here and there.

ahh i got this off barge's website

The RC-3 is our interpretation of the Ross grey compressor. The vintage Ross circuit and sound remain as popular as ever, and have inspired several quality clones over the years. The Ross was a direct descendant of the MXR Dynacomp, changing only modestly in the form of better filtering of internal voltages and other very minor upgrades. The Ross circuit is otherwise identical to the MXR and virtually all of the other clones on the market.
