Dyeing an alder body...

ok so can anyone tell me the process of doing so? and of course where to get good quality dye and the prices...

and, will alder take in colour well? will the wood quality contribute to the final finish? and experiences to share?

also,i think i might be dyeing the maple neck too, leaving the rosewood fretboard dry...or should i just give it a natural finish? how do i give wood a natural finish?

Sorry I can't furnish any advise or provide help. But hopefully I can help to reinforce your request. Personally I also have intentions to dye the neck or even the fretboard of my BC Rich Warlock. I have a special preference for only black guitars, & it'll be great if I can have the neck & fretboard as dark as possible.

Sadly I don't even know what the wood used on my warlock's neck. I was thinking those wood dyes available in IKEA, but didn't wanna get cheap dyes & ruin my guitar.

It'll be much appreciated if anyone who knows or has experience could provide any assistance. Thanks in advance.

i do know that you need bare wood for the dyes to seep in..err,so you'll have to sand your neck down till its like...naked...

from there take some pics and ask around...theres bound to be someone to know what wood that is..

Sand it? Sounds scary. I mean I'm sure I'm good at sanding, but will it damage the entire neck & leaving feeling powdery? As in the original neck would probably have been buffed till smooth & kinda "glossy".

Thanks for the slight advice, but I've been far too busy with work recently, haven't even gotten a chance to touch my guitar, least to say take a pic of it.:???:

Er... ok... sorry for hijacking the thread. Wondering if I should create another thread to waste space or continue being a baddie to hijack this...
