Praetorian said:Duncan Custom is decent. Another pickup you might try is the Duncan Jazz. Very clear, ringing notes. Supposedly good with heavy distortion too.
Or, the Duncan JB. Well balanced, just the right amount of highs mids and lows, incredible sustain and you can pinch harmonic until your fingers drop off. Think Iron Maiden.

to ba fair, if you test a pickup, put all EQ settings to neutral/ 12-0-clock, then you'll hear the true nature of the product.
the JB is not quite trebly, but midrange excessive. if you are into metal, Samoth (ex-Emperor/ Zyklon) has a Jackson RR with the JB humbucker in it.
i've the Custom/ Custom Custom/ Custom 5 with me in 3 diff guitars (all Ibanez actually). the Custom is a very hot '59 to say the least. i has a very similar EQ setting to the '59 but has more to offer in terms of harmonics & picking sensitivity. the Custom handles low-end, distorted tones very well. in fact, it has an inherent deep voicing that many bass note peddlers will love 8)
