hey,

Was wondering which pedal to get,
boss ds2 or mt2
i play mainly rock-metal.
thanks,
btw, anyone knows if saosin's having their own private show here???

I would advise against the metal zone unless you really need that much distortion..sometimes less is more :D haven't tried the DS-2, Didn't care for the DS-1.. come to think of it most boss distortions too...:???:

I've tried the ds2 before, loved it at first but pinch harmonics and all are much easier on the mt2 so im kinda undecided, thanks anyway!:)

i prefer the ds-2 to the mt2. i dont like the mt2 at all actually haha

for rock-metal i guess the ds-2 is better cos the mt2 has too much gain for rock.
all the best in your search!

You can run two distortion pedals together, just set the other pedal (usually an overdrive or mild distortion) to a fairly low distortion setting.

In my opinion, the Boss MT-2 does not sound good and does not justify its asking price...

maybe u can give us a budget for your pedals.
the more experienced softies might be able to recommend u sth else within that budget:)

btw,i find that the ds2 at high gain is noisy enough so if u wana use another pedal to boost the gain (while on high gain) the noise will be pretty uncontrollable. volume boosts are fine.

And rmb to read eugenesmasher's sig before taking any of our advice.

From my experience I didn't really like the tone from the DS-2, although it has 2 tone modes from which you could tweak. I don't know what sort of distortion you're looking for in "rock-metal" but if you're thinking A7X sort of stuffs, I don't think the DS-2 will provide enough drive saturation. After much fiddling with the knobs I decided to offload it, just couldn't coax a good tone out lol. Haven't tried stacking with other drive pedals though.

As for the MT-2, I've only tried it once, I remember it gave good "chugs" with palm muted chords. But then again I was playing through a cranky combo amp.

I think you should go try out the pedals yourself to see if you like the tone, if not you'll be wasting money selling your pedals away at a loss later. My 2c :).

Shud try first, watch youtube and read reviews ..............

Try Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff with Top boost .......

Rock on ...........

try the Boss MD-2 heavy rock and suitable for high gain metal music ;]
and hey guess what im letting go of one heehee *HIJACKS*

These were the first two drive pedals I've tried when I first started out playing. In my experience, both pedals have sufficient gain to do rock/metal but back then I used the DS-2 for "Nirvana/Grunge" jammin whereas the MT-2 for my "80s Hair Metal" fix.

But if u dont mind looking beyond the Boss range of pedals, do try out the Beta Aivin HM-200. For the price, its a solid pedal with a wide range of tone that you can dial in.
