hey guys. between DS1 and DS2 whats the different and which one should i go for?
or what good distortion should i go for?
thanks alot

do correct me if i'm wrong, fellow softies. i'm currently using the ds-2.

to me, the most significant difference is the twin mode lah. turbo one enables the stompbox to sound pretty much like a ds-1. turbo two has a more modern distortion sound. i guess you can say ds-2 is more versatile.

however, i won't confidently say that the ds-2 can replicate the ds-1 entirely. i'm afraid i might get run down by ds-1 evangelists!

not much of a diff in the price wise cause i'll be going for a second hand one.

DS2 has the turbo thingy. thats the main diff of DS1 and DS2?

^^Yes.

But the general complaint is that the turbo mode one in DS-2 doesnt sound as "warm" as the DS-1, it was supposed to sound like

Whatever that means

I've tried both versions of the DS-1 and DS-2 ( in terms of Japan and Taiwan models )

basically, MIT DS-1 and MIT DS-2 dont sound good ( in my very honest opinion ). however, the MIT DS-1 is a better buy as compared to the MIT DS-2 as it has a whole lot more modding options to choose from.

for the Japan versions, I would say that the MIJ DS-2 ( they exist but are as easy to find as chicken teeth  . ) totally kills the MIT DS-2. it has so much more gain and warmth. its so easy to get feedback out of your amp just by turning the distortion knob. the Taiwan version cant do that. basically, the Japan version has a hell lot more gain. very good for hard rock.

however, I personally prefer an MIJ DS-1 over an MIJ DS-2. I prefer it cos its more smooth sounding. I use it as a booster to boost an overdriven amp or just a GT-2. very "full" sounding in a way. since I dont just play hard rock, I decided to keep the MIJ DS-1 and sell the MIJ DS-2.

oh, one thing I like about the DS-2 is the external footswitch thing. can change between mode I and mode II. really good in a way.
