drumsticks too skinny?

I bought a pair of promark mike portnoy sticks recently, and when I'm playing with them they kept threatening to fly out of my hands since they are thinner than normal drumsticks... so I ended up having to grip them tighter than before... should I continue to try adapt to them, or switch back to normal sized sticks?

if they fly out of your hands then its probably a good opportunity to improve your technique and grip.

if you can i would suggest getting many pairs of sticks of different shapes and sizes and lengths and tips. then according to what sound you want or what kind of genre of music you're playing you're able to switch sticks and have that adapability.

the most important thing is still to be comfortable while playing though. find sticks that you feel easy playing and don't have to exert so much.
