my son, 9yrs old express interest in drums. so i am thinking of getting an electronic drums something that i can lower that damn volume if he messes up :) and just banging around like a mad monkey. i did a search and nothing comes up accept how much i need allocate for it.

any good decent recommendation that allows him to grow and upgrade and can handle the beating of a 9yr old boy. preferred something with a double pedal or upgrade to a double pedal (i also wanna whack a bit)

i can hook it up to a pair of monitoring speakers that i got at home. so thats good.

budget around $1-2k. 2nd hand also ok :).

thanks for reading.

Hi, i would recommend you the yamaha dtx550, one of the best midend drum set at a reasonable price, 427 sounds, 10 inch textual coated silicon pad, 15 inch 3 zone ride cymbal, 13 inch 3 zone crash cymbal, hi hat pad mounted on a hi hat stand for realistic feeling, it is selling at about $2.5k in the yamaha sale, u shld check it out, i saw a few for sale in the soft drum buy sell forum,

btw i have tried the dtxplorer, got for beginners or for people with low budget, certainly not a good buy if u want to play more professionally, the hi hat isnt realistic, the snare pad is too small, the cymbals are only 1 zone , aka 1 sensor, but the module is quite good :)

cool thanks...i might consider those traveller kinda drumkit as well. whats a decent one to get?

last time i checked, the Dtxplorer IV special was on offer price. might be close to your budget. $2099 if i'm not mistaken.

if you have a little more to spare, do try roland V drums. they are good stuff. just picked up a Roland TD4KX a few weeks ago and with no regrets. IMO, after much testing and A-Bing, It is much better to what yamaha has to offer.

I bought it for my studio purpose and also to give me kids a start on the jamming experience.

If you have budget constraints, you can always go for DTXplorer at Yamaha, or Roland's e-drums(V-drums?) at Swee Lee.
You might want to look further on the DTXpress IV and DTX550 as the above Softies have mentioned. I recommend getting the latter if money isn't a problem.

decided to get a decent acoustic drums, getting a Gretch BlackHawk and try my best to mute it, worse case i will get a contractor to build a platform and soundproof the room and than i can get the rest of the boys to come over to jam. need to upgrade the guitar amp tho, i got a 600 watts bass and a 15watts guitar amp ;p.

anyone know how much a contractor will charge to build a platform and sound proof the rooms?
