Hi.

i left yamaha drums course in Nov 2004 and have since got myself eDrums.

i find I'm plateauing in terms of beats and fills I can play.

I'm looking for drum DVDs or VCDs that I can learn from, teach me new drumming techniques, new fill ideas.

anyone know where I can get them locally, or perhaps online?

Any particular titles you guys can recommend?

Thanks.

hmmm, this is not DVD and VCD material but i guess it will help alot in fill-ins.
mxtabs.net has alot of great drum tabs to learn from.. and i go there to learn most of the time.
i think u can practise ur rudiments well and ur sticking.. go to ur drums there and just be creative! u'll work out something new. it works for me at least..

get a piece of paper.. just write some score.. dun even try to picture them in ur mind how it will sound like. just write a something.. write a "solo".. then u go to ur drums and figure out how to play? i do that sometimes and learn a few things.
:D

My drummer swears by Mike Portnoy's Liqiud Drum Theater instructional video... Though for me to get ideas is to listen to more music and open up to diff genres..

agreed. LTE is just magnificient and the video is pretty good, though not exactly very instructional.

check out Dave Weckl's "A Natural Evolution" Video. it helped me a whole lot.

www.vicfirth.com

Its been really helpfull, teaches you technique and how to apply as well.. i personally love the snare sudiments, Then apply it to diffrent parts of the set.. Check the eductaional section out bro.

Try the Christian bookshop at Plaza Singapura basement 2. They usually have lots of drum DVDs on sale. There's also another store Midpoint Orchard, #01-02. They have the Tommy Igoe Groove Essentials, if you are looking to widen your style.

I like the Steve Smith DVD. You can check out more DVDs at www.hudsonmusic.com.

anyone here interested in forming a video exchange group?

we could all list the videos we have that we are willing to exchange with others.

i would say mike's LTE disc 1 is not bad. but for dream theatre one (disc 2), unless you got such a monster set like him, i dun think so.
thomas lang's dvd also not bad.

Thomas Lang: Creative Control..

Or if U can dig up from anywhere a copy of Scott Travis Double Bass playing method.. That would be a blast!!!

Hi,

steve gadd's stuff worked alot for me. probably preference in what kinda direction you're heading for in drumming.

but then again, not to wet your blanket but it's almost impossible to master the really cool drumming techniques with and on an Edrum.

check out johnny rabb's freehand technique for eg, just for eg.

Try signing up for membership at the Esplanade library. They have a collection of drum videos there, from beginners to advance. While you're at it, you can even borrow guitar/bass videos for your bandmates too :D
