Hi,
I would love to share my recent experience with the people over at DR Strings. Hope this creates interest in DR strings for those who do not know about it simple because the company produces amazing strings. I'm a DR convert.
I bought a set of Long Necks two weeks ago in bid to replace my dying Thomastik Infeld strings which zero_g kindly passed to me. I wanted to try something different then. Tried it on zero_g's warwick and it sounded amazing on it so i thought it'll work for my bass. Went down to davis and grabbed the last set of long necks that was sitting pretty on the shelf.
I went hope and strung it up on my bass but since it was tapered core, i had to redo my string height and bass setup. Took me a while to do it but when i got it right i was quite happy. Took out my cable and plugged it into my amp, but something sinister awaited me when i struck the first note.
Things didn't seem to sound really right. There seemed to be a strange warbly sound that appeared on the higher registers and some notes on the lower registers, like those you'll hear when you bass intonation was out. I figured that i didn't do my intonation properly so i turned off my amp and redid my intonation. Did it with my trusty Ibanez tuner with me and plugged my bass back in the amp when i was done. But the problem still persisted. I couldn't play chords in the higher registers because the intonation was so bad. The D and A string was so off in the higher registers that it was a quarter of a semitone off even though things sounded okay in the lower registers.
I took some time to troubleshoot but everything was as per normal. So i resorted to contacting DR. After some troubleshooting with me, both of us couldn't figure out what's wrong.
Here's the amazing thing they did for me: they told me they'll send me a new set of DRs. I took the liberty to request for a different series of strings, the Lo-riders; and they complied! Now that's service for you.
Today, a small, white box appeared in my mail with the strings in it. I took it out and strung it on and wow! it sounded amazing on my bass. Now the Lo-riders are for me.
Okay, here's a little exin and his string escapade story for you out there. If anyone of you have similar problems/issues with the long necks do post it here. Or you've got something to say about DR strings, here's the thread too.
Love the DR guys to bits. It's rare to find such service in Singapore.
