Double pedal to 2 single pedal switch

Hi guys, ive been thinking about this for quite some time now.

I am currently using a Pearl Export drumset, and i intend to get another bass drum, to switch to 2 bass drums.

Are there any significant differences in this switch? I haven't actually tried on a dual bass drum set before, but people have been telling me that its alot more stable and easier to modulate speed. Stuff like that.

Also, I need some recommendations as to what single pedals to use in the event where i DO switch, i am currently using a iron cobras chrome edition dual pedals.

Hey there,

first of all you've gotta correct the misconception that playing on 2 bass pedals instead of on a pair of doubles will help you modulate speed or increase stability - this comes from technique and posture

you will definitely find playing on 2 seperate pedals much easier because both pedals (if tweaked correctly) will feel similar. for double pedals, the slave pedal has to drive the connecting rod, which in turn will send the beater forward. there's a lot of energy lost in the process, and the slave pedal will tend to feel slightly sluggish and less responsive as compared to the main pedal... chained, strap-driven, or direct drive pedals will have slightly sluggish slave pedals, no matter how you tweak it and its almost impossible to get both to feel the same!

i see you're using a pair of "workhorses", pretty damned pretty ones too in chrome! if you're willing, you could do a search on other forums on how to convert a pair of IC doubles into 2 seperate single pedals - you might have to make a few purchases though.

Hey alvyn, ive tried running some searches on various forums and search engines regarding the conversion of dual IC pedals into 2 single pedals but to no avail though.

Perharps you might have a better idea of where to get the guide for that more specifically?

Thanks COR that helped alot. They mentioned something about ordering some parts so that i can convert my dual pedals into 2 singles though... where exactly do i order these parts? I doubt that pearl drummers forum is based on Singapore...

Hey isa long time no see, how did you know it was me lol. Well my brother moved out of my room (hes in another room now) so if i take out one of the single beds i can probably fit the extra bass drum and 2 more toms too

You're welcome! Yup PDF forum is american.... but I'm sure you can get parts. I heard there's some importers who import all these hardware, or you can ask at sweelee (although I don't have much faith in sweelee stocking it xP)
