double bass on 1 foot only

you mean like jojo mayer? see his video with nerve during modern drummer festival on drummerworld. there's one bit where he goes this continuous heeltoe.

you could check this out, too:
http://www.drummerworld.com/Clinic/Derrick_Pope3.html

how? just practise with it. first you gotta get the constant heeltoe motion. usually if you start out only able a stroke of one heel and one toe, (like double hits) you gotta get it to the point where you can heel-toe-heel-toe-heel-toe-heel-toe.

one way is to practise with the toe first. so try toe-heel instead of the normal motion.

another way is steve smith's Constant-Release. derrick pope talks about it in his heel-toe video. i dont have direct steve smith vids, if anyone knows please post. his Constant-Release is playing constant heel strokes, like moving the entire leg and keeping the foot stiff, so it's just the heel hitting the pedal. that's the 'Constant'. then in between those heel notes, he 'taps' with his toe. that's the 'Release'. so it's like a constant-release-constant-release thing. yeah. i think it's easier if you watch the video.

HAHA! YA! I always get doubles. With occassional threes, fours and rare fives. I try to start with toe first too, to get threes. thanks for your advice.

yup haha same problem as me. but i stopped heel-toe for awhile. i've been doing double kicks. like the out-in motion. the slide motion. i dont know what they call it. but yeah. people like Ralf Gustke do it extremely fast. Tony Royster also did it in one of his videos. so i dont know, heel-toe is good, but i think it's quite cheat. so i'm practising my double kicks first which could really strengthen my bass playing.

i have a question. How to keep heel toe playing a consistent beat.

Actually the Heel-Toe Techniques by Jojo..is not really using toe (it's just call Heel-Toe Technique) ....They are using the 1st stroke stamping on pedal using the foot & the 2nd stroke using the ball of the foot through rebound....It's tough though this method....I gave up hahahaha !.

Last week one of my very good drummer friend show me his (can't remember what's it's call - I think Dualist Pedal...something like that)...I try....Hey !..it's fun but he told me cost S$500 to S$600...If I got $$$$ I go buy one on this....makes it easier for me lah....Oh and I think with the Jojo M Heel-Toe Techniques - The Dualist can be fast man.nnn...

no it's really heel-toe. it's a stroke with the back of your foot, then a stroke with the front of your foot.

oh yeah and if you heel-toe on the duallist you get triplets. cool eh?

No...the Heel-Toe Technique is not using a Stroke by Back-Of-Foot follow by A Stroke with Front of Foot..........though it is call "Heel-Toe Techniques"....don't know why they call it Heel-Toe Techniques...but which is misleading. really.....I no bluff you one...

Hahahaha...it should be call the Ball-Toe Techniques (I guess it sound aweful in this manner)...so they call it heel toe techniques.

I don't know how to explain well...but it goes something like this...First you push your foot in a forward motion on the pedal to do the 1st stroke, the pedal hit the BD, and as it rebounes back you use the ball of the foot to do the 2nd shot...you so this by putting your foot somewhere 3/4 on the pedal.

Have you seen John Blackwell DVD...he uses this technique very well, with very good control and fast too as he play his Funk beat.....In the DVD there is a footage that shows very clearly how he did it....That's Jojo's so-called Heel-Toe Techniques. In John's dvd..he did not mentioned that it is a Heel-Toe Technique (he only explain how it's been done)...but That's Heel-Toe and I'm very sure.

Um Erik Sandin of NOFX does have a reputable foot. He was quite against heavy metal when he first started out, so he didn't want to get a double pedal. Thus he trained his right foot, and it's fast.

hey guys i think i have a problem with my bass drum pedaling.. instead of heel-toe, i always play toe-heel. i would position my foot at the middle of the pedal then i tap with my toe to hit the BD, and at the same time, land my entire foot unto the pedal, resulting in a double stroke.

am i doing the right thing? i discovered this technique myself, but i damn scared im doing the wrong thing. is this heel-toe? and those the placement of the words heel-toe actually have any significance, i.e. heel slam pedal first then toe hit BD?

in any case, the method i use still give me a nice double stroke on the BD, just that im worried im using a wrong technique.

thank you for any constructive inputs. :)

That's actually reverse, but if it works for you, and doesn't hurt you ergonomically, then it's something you created for yourself.

The sequence isn't that important anyway. I try to practice it both ways.
