hi i'm new here and i'm planning to learn the electric guitar. i wish to play blues rock kind of music but dont know what guitar to get. hope u guys can advice me (forgot to say i wanna get strats)

my budget is about 200-300 for guitar + amp. if i buy such a cheap package, will it sound VERY bad? i saw a TGM electric guitar going for 170, is that good?

for amps i just need a 10w practice 1. can recommand a cheap and good 1?
and beginners dont need pedals rite?

hi Robb- welcome to the pack...

the packaged deal (all brand names) often offer bare essentials, nothing fantastic. the aim of which is to offer beginners a budget start to this indulgence. if you are bent on getting one, be prepared to accept the shorcomings of the wares.

the amps included are strictly practice grade, some of which feature a very uninspiring overdriven tones. again, if you made up your mind to invest in a packaged deal, be happy with the clean channel & maybe hook up a few pedals to make your distortion more acceptable. of course, if you are happy with what's on offer (after hearing it in action), why spend more on pedals, yes?

i've tried many starter pack offerings, in its entirety (guitar + amp), i find the SX deal to be worth what you're paying for. 8)

whoa that GG1K looks great, but it didnt state where i can buy it.
is that any good strats start package too?

looks aside, the guitar feels great in the hands & the overall tone on offer sounds above-verage. the strat version is also available, wonder if the review is still available in the database...

SX available @ Davis...

You can also try the STIM strat + amp at G77. Affordable beginners' package. If you up your budget a little, maybe you can get the Randall amp. Much much better than the tiny SX amp (overdrive is horrendous!).

go find some cheap players package, definitely in abundance - should be relatively good too for the price i guess.

if not get any 15 watt amp with reverb and any cheap strat copy and u're ready to rock! (reverb is for u to play with when u get bored!) :P

um, begginners dun *need* pedals, but it's certainly great for keeping the motivation present!

well dude if u pm me ur number, im quite sure i can go down with u and help u choose

i might be able to net u a gd deal... kelvin knows my face well (bought a lot of stuff) :D

whoa thanks guys u guys very helpful.
think i'm gonna go down to dravis and check out the packages but need to save abit more. i'll msg u when i'm going down santa. thanks :D

For your range (200-300), I'd suggest you streeeeeeetch your budget a little... say by about 30 bucks, and get itachi's SZ320 (http://soft.com.sg/2006/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=20729)

Very good guitar at that price, you'd be hard pressed to find a 1st or 2nd hand guitar of that quality. It'll easily see you through for quite a while, instead of buying a entry level beginner's guitar and having to spend again when you find the tone unsatisfactory or find yourself attracted to another guitar (guitar adultery?)

You could probably get a 2nd hand 10/15 watt amp for 50ish too, trawl through luthermusic and you might be able to find a good deal or two.

ValBee: great, warm, tube cleans. drive tones are acceptable, nothing fantastic without a pedal boost.

i LOVE my ValBee...

O.O

whats the point abt getting a 5W valbee?? it would be abt 10-15W solid state rite, and imho that still gets drowned out by drums...

unless jsut for bedroom prac then... go ahead :D
