I just wondering does yamaha sell only the top part of hi hat rather than a pair... Because currently I am trying to experiment and create a secondary hi hat which is pretty trashy... 14" Orental China as the bottom hat and 13" ??? Hi hat top...

I experiemented with my cymbals, 12" china as bottom and 11" splash as hi hat top sounds really tasty to me.. Well, tasty in a musical way.. Lol...

Anybody?

you may wanna scout around at other places... eg excelsior instead of yamaha... as iggy said... i doubt anyone would do that cept for smaller scale companies....

I didn't know that Yamaha, being the official dealer, would be so inflexible.
The usual pratice at the stores I went to when I was in the states, you can match and pair ANYTHING you want. Even if you don't want a pair, you could just buy a top or bottom hi hat like you're buying a crash.

Logically, only the bigger establishments like official distributors should be able to allow this, since they've got a larger inventory and direct stock line from Zildjian.

In contrast, smaller shops would likely only purchase a few sets in pairs, and thus want to sell them in pairs. Otherwise they might end up holding on to an orphan hi hat for ages.

IMO.

Ranking sports is bringing in the 14" top hat of Soundcaster series by Meinl in the coming shipment or you can get a pair Trojan 13" hi-hat for $110...

This is Singapore, not the States. We have a much smaller population and that translate to much lower demand for drums related purchases. With this factor, I believe Yamaha would not want to "sabo" themselves by having a pair of unmatched hi-hats that potentially is not going to be bought by another customer.

smaller population > lower demand > inflexible sales policies + ignore customers' needs?

I can accept that from an indepedent/small outfit who can be here today and gone the next month. They definitely have limits in what requests they can accomodate. But from the official dealer who happens to be a respectable name in music? Disappointing.

I'm sure they will be able to match the hats with new stock if they wanted to, they're freaking Yamaha + zildjian distributor. But probably think "hey, why be so nice to the Singaporean customer? Very easy to satisfy one lah, they will understand that it's troublesome cos our local market is so small. Let them sort it out themsevles, if they want, they buy, if not, don't buy lor. Anyway, just tell them cannot and they'll accept it."

Lower demand does not have to translate to demand for lower standard of service.
