Does Brand REALLY MATTER?

i'm thinking of getting a guitar for metal. I saw a really attrative samick at, it had snake and skul beautiful graphiqs. This cost around $700. If i get this i will change the bridge pickup to EMG-81. Thn there is the jackson dkmg at swee lee, which has EMG-HZ, I will also change the bridge pickup to EMG-81, and this costs $1450. Samick has original floyd rose, while jackson has some double locking bridge. Both are alder body, mapleneck and rosewood fingerboard, and 24 frets and same scale. So does brand really matter? If almost everything is the same, will there be any difference at all? the price diiference is quite large......
So whats the wiser choice?

go try both, see which one u like better...

my .0002 cent

imho, the reason why the price different is due to the brand name and the place where its made. The samick is made in korea while the other in japan if not wrong. As for the usual opinion of mij is better than mik, that is not always. Mik guitars have improved over the years

As for the brand or graphic, personally, i would think that these 2 are the least of my concern. Theres no point in having nice graphic or big brand if the guitar has a lousy tone, bad fret or in short, bad playability.

In your case, i would think that its best for you to try out both guitar, chk for the flaws/good point and make the decision.

As for the EMG HZ, dont be impressed with it just because its emg. The hz series is not the usual EMG that we know of. The HZ is passive pickup wheras the usual emg that most ppl used are active pickup with a 9v battery.

i am gonna change the pickups to EMG-81. Now its the question of graphiqs or brand. Is it worth it paying for the name, as everything is the same and feel comfortable. Help....

It is up to individual. But i would take the jackson. Samick is famous for budget guitar and a budget guitar means lower quality. Take the jackson, jackson would sound nice even without changing the pickups.

how much are the emg81s? and would it be advisable to put in both the 81 and 85 into a H-H combo?

about $120 at davis without service charge. Anyone know where else to get EMG's? Other than davis? When i changed the pickup on my current guitar, they did quite a messy job..........
Any other place? I know that swee lee doesnt have EMG's

haizzzz, super punk, ppl ask serious question, why you want to give a answer that make you look like a KID(young, imatured, uneducated, no manner) that need some real lesson in life about growing up. When you ask a serious question, ppl give you a serious answer(in your other pickup thread), now when ppl ask a serious question, you give a answer that might as well dont give.

To flyingbirman- As for emg pickup, davis is the only dealer for emg pickup locally. Its either from there or look in the 2nd hand market. You can get it from davis and look for other guitar tech to help you with the wiring.

Maybe you can try and buy the pups and find a local luthier reputable and pay him to install the pups.

Yeah! Do that.
I didn't know davis got any experienced guitat tech. You can also try using SD's active pup. I know music plaza brings them(SD pup) in but it might cost a lot.
