Do your string tunings stay?

Normally after you tune up your bass, play and leave it, do the tunings stay?
I.e. the next time you pick it up, the tuner still shows perfect tuning.

I think most likely strings tend to get looser and cause tuning to drop over time. But I have a slight problem. Everytime I pick up the bass to tune it, every string is about 100cents higher then the tuning. What's happening??

HORHOR YOUR NECK IS WARPING!
Whahahahha! Quick send it to hospital!

No but really. You should observe and verify this. Can be caused by a couple of factors, tho its quite vague right now.

yes...blackmoo maybe right...do you change your string to a thicker gauge?

Confirm it's neck warping??
But you may be right, I can't think of anything else that can cause strings to "tighten" themselves! But if it really is warping, it sounds like it's getting "straighter", which is quite uncharacteristic too, or is it not?

The string gauge the same, just newer :)

Where do you keep your bass? In a gig bag? Sometimes taking it in and out of the gig back, the tuners get turned slightly.

How about your room? Do you switch the air-con on and off at certain times of the day? The tunings tend to change when the temperature flucturates.

Well, depends on temperature too, bro. If you sleep in an airconditioned room, the drop in temperature will cause the strings to contract, thus making the tuning go sharp.

I get that problem when I go into a studio from a hot day out. When my bass hits the colder room, the tuning keeps going sharp, as the strings keep contracting. I have to keep retuning the bass in order to stay in tune, if the temperature difference is very great.

one thing for sure...dont keep your bass where there's contact with sunlight...it will cause the neck to warp for sure

Don't keep it at a place where it's prone to dropping either. There was once I leaned my bass against something, thought it was pretty safe. When I wasn't around, somebody didn't notice it and bumped into it, causing it to fall hard onto the ground.

The damage cost me 230 smackers to remedy.... :(

Thanks for all the help, guys.
I don't know what's wrong, but it is getting better now. The tunings are finally staying, only goes off very little now. I do hope it's nothing serious like a warped neck.

it MAY be your tuners in that case ..sometimes the tuners are faulty lah.. but of course alot of factors to be taken into consideration .. you may want to change one string by one string when you change your strings so to maintain constant neck tension ...

I read some instructions in a pack of DR Handmade strings. Says something like stretching your string shorten the life of your strings. I didn't stretch my DR and is doing perfectly fine now. Staying nicely in tune most of the time, at the most i tune it slightly everyday.
