Do You Want A Place To Play Music Get Paid(Everyone Here)

I have a Personal Friend (A Lady) who just call me & we spoke. She is the New LandLord who win the bid for a Place near Orchard (She owns a Few Blocks There now eg 6 to 7 blocks) ....There are Suana, Food especially there - opening is next month - Of course I am invited lah...my GF mah. I won't disclose the exact place now as yet

Now.....I need IDEAS CONTRIBUTION from you all here. This came acrosss my mind now so I put this Thread up. HELP ME TO HELP YOU ALL - LETS HAVE FUN. I do not know if it will materailise, but I am going to bring up if the idea works. I have spoken to her on this - but we need concrete idea.


This place which she is the Land-Lord houses a lot of good food - about maybe 20 units there - totalling 6 to 7 blocks - Tenants there are into Food Business 9Not low-class one har).....Harry's Bar will also be there.....so just one tenant is into Music.

Now - how do we attract Crowd there....and how can I by doing this help brothers who have a band here be able to gig there (Let's not talk about $$$$$$$$$$ here - maybe you get paid a little - but the opportubity is your band can Jam - and I will try to arrange that all have a chance to do it on different days) - - but I need ideas from you all. I am not asking for Top-Notch Professional Bands Up Here - that is easy. I want so-so band (but must be able to play one - dont malu ok liao) ... make it fun for many bands to enjoy and gig there.....in a real life situation. My Objective is - Let you all have a chance to play & enjoy (the non-professional ones here) get paid a little (I have to talk to her on this)....gain experience, get together drummers again (beside monthly meetup/exchange) and HELP my GF attract crowds....How???

As you know - I was thinking Harry's Bar (is into JAZZ MUSIC)...I do not want to canabalise the business from them there - since they are a Tenant-----so maybe Music such as Rock, Funk, Pop Bands can play there - Maybe in an Open Area...or maybe build an Arena - a small one there by the Land-Lord) you play there - help to attract crowds...of course Instruments she have to buy - I want to try to save cost for her - cause I brought it up to her just now - but I do not know if it's justifiable for a start.

My friend has other businessess (she is my friend and once my customer) - today we are great buddys still something like GF/BF lah....Kekeke actually no lah- Her daughter (still single - pretty Girl hor is helping her run the other business more as she is learning the trade)..so that my friend can focus on this business which is her HOBBY..Food & Entertainment.

I was thinking build an Arena - can host many type of activities - not just Bands playing there right ...as she is the Landlord - she sure have some upper say - if things do not conflict with her tenants...

NOW Brothers of Soft - Give me lots of ideas please - let's try to make it works for you for me for everyone here.....

3 Objectives - My Friend Business (simple one just attract people to visit her tenants, We can Jam, get paid a little)..I do not know how much we'll have to spend - but low cost as possible...

RD it's nice of you to always think of us in every opportunity you have to help the drummers/musicians here in SOFT. As of now I have little idea on how your friend will benefit. But if she agrees on this kind of setup, maybe we can put a different genres everyday so to attract different kinds of people also.
I have seen places in other countries wherein their food court plays a band in the center and it's cool and entertainment for the customers.

I'm still sleepy coz I went home 5am, I'll just take a nap and maybe after I woke up I have a better idea hehehe.

Must see the location than can visualize... all i can think of now is that the space designated is a Performing Arts corner... bands is just only one aspect... should have a variety to make it diverse... latin dance, magic show, acrobats... classical essemble...etc

I agree with u drum_hobbist - I will have to meet her there - see the place and check with her if she can do a corner like that (like a Gondola) - can have Bands, anything in performing - but the tenants there will have to agree on this too.

The thing is - I don't know who pay the Bands there, and instruments who pay for it (how to ensure things won't get lost/stolen eg instruments)....wah I am headache - but I will talk to her..she is realy my very very good friend..and I am happy for her - She bought the Place - because HOBBY lah..Whahahaha hope I'm as rich as her but ...aiyah better I dont dream lah.

Haha. Usually performers will bring their own props/equipments. Except amplifiers, keyboards, tables, drumsets etc. Those that are usually not portable. So equipments like guitars can be kept in the store unless the bands didn't bring their own gears. I like D_H's idea of having latin dance, magic show, acrobats etc. That kind of make full use of the stage.

You will have no lack of bands. Most of us has a band I think.

If there're 20 tenants, all can chip in for band fees. I think getting decent bands to play can help her draw some great crowd. Live music was huge in the 80s to 90s, then died a little...but good news is, Love for live music is BACK!!! I think its worth your friend's money. Maybe just have bands on weekends for a start. A good 4 piece band now costs only about $480 per night (3 sets). Bands are cheaper nowadays.
