why not CIJ? in my opinion the CIJ strats are just as good, if not better. true, the older MIJ strats have more mojo, but it depends on the type you have. if you got the one built for export model they are mostly basswood, like the type Davis sells. The ones built for the Jap market(non-import) models are great guitars for the price and specs.
to threadstarter: check the fender japan site before you buy to make sure you know exactly what specs you are getting. I bought a CIJ strat after checking the site, it was a st-57-78 tx with alder body, one piece maple neck and fender texas special pups, the kind you will find on the SRV signature. In my opinion its a really good guitar esp after i swapped out the bridge pup for a dimarzio fast track 2(for heavy gain stuff). My fren who owns an American Standard strat says he cant get that kinda tone which he really likes from his strat after playing my strat. Try to get the alder body models if you want the "authentic strat" sound, altho bro Sub here will assure you otherwise with the "twang" he gets on his basswood jap strat.....
ya.. i should think so.
it's a used set. and some dings..
of cos the plus points is it's fits me and left handed.. but doing some calculation.. MIJ + shipping is more cheaper.
btw. Dime.. what's the diff between MIJ and CIJ.. always heards all these terms
The difference between the "Made in Japan" MIJ and the "Crafted in Japan" CIJ models is to do with who was involved with the manufacturing of the guitars. According to a Fender representative it was in the Fender Japan contract that if there was any manufacturer change involving any part of the guitar then the logo would be changed from MIJ to CIJ. So if the manufacturer changed or the manufacturer outsourced some of the making then the logo would be CIJ. Some CIJ Fenders turn up around 1993 and this seems to be because FujiGen was expanding their factory to be able to handle additional contracts (such as the Orville by Gibson contract) and around 1993 outsourced some of the making to other Japanese companies for a while, resulting in a CIJ logo instead of a MIJ logo. The CIJ Fenders from 1997 onwards are because Tokai and Dyna took over the Fender Japan manufacturing contract from FujiGen resulting in a CIJ logo instead of a MIJ logo.
I have to agree with our brothers here. If you are thinking long term investment, MIJ is the way to go. Plus, the MIJ Strats are known to have good workmanship and quality built into it. Read this:
dime:i remember seeing somewhere how korea made and china made has no difference.its a situation of 2 countries.whereas MIJ and CIJ apparently are both made in japan.so why'd there be a preference?since both the same MA.
look for a nice piece at around 600, change pups for 300 and set up for 100!
for strats(any guitar actually), the most important purchase is the set up
just make sure you include that part in your budget
