I listen to hot country but it's still quite limited to mostly magazine lessons. I said listening coz up to now I still haven't developed the facility to play it. I'm still stuck in playing licks and I have yet to play a cohesive solo with them. On a side note, I'm still hunting for brent mason's hotwired album? Any of you guys have it? Care to share?

My fave hot country album would be danny gatton's redneck jazz explosion. It's way, way, far out. : )

That album is bloody killer. Any guitar genre you want except grindcore metal is there. He shreds better then any long haired Norwegian.

Check out Brad Paisley's Play for some recent pickin'. Keith Urban kicks it up, Brent Mason, Redd Volkaert, Albert Lee, Vince Gill, B.B King and others are on it. Its hot man.

Thanks, i will do when the GAS items are settled. haha. I heard some great reviews about brad paisley's play album too.

How the heck did I miss this thread which is the closest thing to my heart.
Country! Did anyone say Country Music?
I love country music, Collin Raye, Garth Brooks, Kate Wolf, Reba Mcyintre, Brad Paisley, Forester Sisters, Dolly Parton(her voice, OK I lied), Randy Travis.
I love country music for the soppy lyrics, nice simple guitar chords, nice simple picking patterns, and most of all because one man/woman and one guitar a country band makes.
Anyone interested in a get together for some soppy lyrics singing.

IMHO,Bon Jovi's last album,Lost Highway,is the best country-pop album ever.Seriously,I have never bothered listening to a country album from first song to last before that album.I actually find country rather boring with the exception of every song on that album.
Maybe it's just me and I've gone gay for Jon.

Hahah, me here, just a lil. Very noob. I do Carrie Underwood and Leann Rimes, for a bit. Taylor Swift also, hot amongst the youth... Play two lines and all the girls start screaming... -.- And Rascal Flatts, if you do consider him a country musician?

here are some of my fav guitar players who also excel at country styles

1. Steve Morse - check out the track General Lee from the album "The Introduction"

2. Mark Knopfler - various tracks

3. Glen Campbell -a few tracks

4. Albert Lee - Tele country King

5. Sonny Landreath - more Cajun stuff but also country influenced slide licks here & there

6. Ry Cooder - also multi genre - nice country licks inhis Borderline album

7. Tommy / Phil Emmanuel

8. The Hellcasters

Them. They are a band.

I listened to dad playing his Roy Rogers & then the Nashville train - people like Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline etc -. Picked up a few finger pickin' techniques via country music. Still play 'em vinyls as & when I feel like kicin' back with some bourbon & my ten gallon hat.
