Good Day my fellow percussion brudders & sishtas,
Got a few question to ask....
1. How to mic-up a djembe for an indoor and outdoor performance for the best sound?
2. If i'm slinging the djembe and need to move and dance to the music, Is there a clip on mic for percussion instruments?
3. What type of mic suits best for Remo djembe?

hi bro,
yep, u can use a clip-on mic for your djembe. The best is to get a djembe tat has a steel rim so u can clip the mic on. I recommend a wireless clip-on mic. U can get a good and affordable ones at swee lee or ranking.

Hi Brudder Ahpek,
Thank you..... Ok i'll try to check it out. Wanna ask how to position a normal percussion mic to get the best sound if the clip on mic is not available.....i've try to position the mic on top of the head, cannot really get the bass tone.... position the mic below, too bassy cannot tahan the sound..... Thanks in advance......

for placing the mic on djembe, the best is to place the mice at edge, abt 1 inche above the djembe skin, and point the mic at the centre. Tat position will pick up your slap tone, open tone, highs and lows naturally. For soundwise, its up to the sound-man. If u want good sound, get a good sound technician who's good at acoustic mic-ing at eq.

Hi, I've mic'd my djembe 2 different ways before and had pretty good results. But my Djembe wasn't strapped to me, it was on a stand.

1) Shure SM57 on the top head, the position was as AhPek suggested. Additionally, I had a Senheisser MD421, or an AKG C1000 at the bottom to get the boom.

2) Audix D4 at on the top head, position as AhPek suggested.

The 2nd option was the easiest of course, and with the Audix D4 (meant for low toms), you can get quite a decent frequency range from the djembe.

My 2cents ;)
