Thanks!

Hi. Never intend to hijack your thread but instead wanna thank you for starting this topic as I'm looking into this too.

I've recently setup a basic home recording studio in my room and now I'm planning to soundproof my room

What I have in mind is as follows:
1. Partly soundproofing the room
2. Build a small chamber esp. for vocal recording. To fit only 1x person

I'm considering of getting the materials from IKEA (or could it be cheaper elsewhere?). My idea of building a makeshift chamber is to make use of the DIY wardrobe from IKEA. And with the wardrobe, then, I start building the sound proofing layers, like sponge, etc. and stick them onto the walls of the wardrobe. The door of the wardrobe will be replaced with either a full glass door (also from IKEA), or a normal IKEA wardrobe door but with windows. Perhaps, this will need a little more handwork fixing that small glass window.

How does this sound like? workable? Feasible?

DO comment and hope the thread starter and myself and all others who are planning to soundproof their rooms, or build chambers in their room could benefit.

Thanks!

Hmm.. I have a friend just setup a recording studio @ a condo.
He installed another sliding window behind the window, double openings door (between the recording room (living room) and the mixing room) and additional door behind the main entrance. It's a normal studio apartment (1 living room, 1 bed room and 1 kitchen)
My opinion:
I find it quite well done as it blocks out the just 100-200m-away MRT track. You can't tell if the train passes by when u close all the windows.
But there's a weak spot, it was the glass between the recording room and the mixing room. So ya, can't make alot of noise when recording. :/

I'm gonna sound-treat my room, not gonna proof it though (but I did add the brush thingy under my door to prevent sound from leaking as I do my vocal prac at night). If u buy professional sound-treat materials, it's not gonna be cheap. :|

Right on. Professional sound proofing equipment is gonna cost a bomb if you're gonna soundproof a whole room. It also depends on how big the room is. I don't find the need to soundproof my room. I plug my guitar straight into the computer and close all the windows. For vocals my friend does the same thing, close all windows, use a condenser mic. Not too bad.

ok i think some of u guys are a bit confused.

pasting the acoustic foam/sponges on your walls will not make your room soundproof.
It will just prevent the sound from bouncing off the walls. (acoustic treatment)

Soundproofing is well, preventing sound from entering or escaping the room.

soundproofing your rooms?

Hiya guys and girls, just wanted to clear somethings up for you all. Soundproofing professionally isn't really that much its not going to cost a bomb. But buying low density foam or foam that is a thermal insulation material is going to do f@@$ all for your soundproofing.
In Sing there are lots of people selling foam claiming is for soundproofing but in fact its actually thermal foam or pc packing foam and NOT acoustic or sound absorbing foam.
The best foam i found is the NoiseBlock 3d foam and i used it myself it looks like pyrimid style and its been great for me, but i still had to soundproof my walls with typical gymsum and rockwool.
I used the proper stuff again noiseblock stuff 200kg rockwool and a noise resistant gypsum board, the results have worked for me so thats what i would do.
Double door is good but you need to carpet the back of the door either that or you then have to pay 1900+ for a propper door

hi Angel M, quite interested to know wat material you describing.
Put some picture up, I'm sure many softies will like to know more about your soundproofing experience. Thanks.

BTW you staying in HDB? Wanna see how you manage to soundproof your room.
