Distortion "Airy" Sound

Hey people!

One or two months ago i bought this Weehbo JVM Drive from a fellow softie.

Then I realize that the sound coming from it sounds very "airy"; I don't know how to explain it, it just doesnt sound like a solid note.

At first i thought it could be because of my EM Drive stacking with it but after disengaging the EM Drive the airy sound is still there.

Anyone knows why and how I can fix it? :(

Thanks!

Regards
Sebastian

this is hard to visualise, maybe record a short recording (about 30 - 45 sec) and post it here?

anyway what guitar and amp are you using?

I think I have an idea of what you mean. By 'airy' I think you mean lacking punchiness found in that of of other distortion pedals.

I have an XTS atomic overdrive that like yours, is a vintage Marshall-in-a-box. Mine mimics a Plexi. I have experienced this 'airy-ness' which I presume is the vintage quality of these Marshall amps.

For me, i just had to tweak the EQ a little. Scoop the EQ a bit more (ie, lower the mids, boost the bass and treble) to add to the punchiness. For a lead tone, just boost the mids. I realize that the 'airy-ness' in the mids helps my sound to cut through the mix in a live setting really well and I grew to like it a lot.

That's just my experience with the XTS, hopefully applies for your pedal as well. Let us know if this works.
