"Direct to PA": Tech21 SansAmp GT2, Palmer Junction, Carl Martin Rockbug, or...?

Hey all,

As much as I love the sound/feel of an amp, there are days when my back forbids me to carry an amp. I've been searching for a "direct to PA" solution with my analog pedalboard, and I've narrowed it down to a few options:

Palmer "The Junction"
Rave reviews about this DI from fellow softies and gigged with a guitarist who had one; killer tone, simple to setup. I'll have to order this from overseas though.

Carl Martin Rockbug
Michael Thompson uses this, and that's semi-convincing me to get one. I like the option of plugging in an MP3 player through the RCA jacks, as it will make practice, sessions and clinics easier (although, as Allen Hinds puts it, "It's hard to get inspired by an MP3"). Like the Palmer, I'll have to order it from overseas.

Tech21 SansAmp GT2
This looks really cool, but it looks like I have to get a separate DI for it. Has anyone used this direct to a PA before? It's the most tweakable of the three, and I like the option of choosing various amp/mic/cab voicings. Ebenex seems to be shipping these in.

Would any users of the above out there be able to provide insight and perspective? This isn't a cry for help as much as it is an avenue for discussion. :)

i am convinced you should use a POD HD
btw, i don't own any of the products mention in this thread up to now

Haha you're like the 5th person to suggest I get a POD HD! I have an X3L and am quite the happy user. I used to advocate Line 6 gear until I got bitten by the analog bug.

I just read/heard the AMT Electronics SS-11 pre which, in clips at least, sounded awesome direct. You might want to check that out too.

Oh yes indeed. Just heard the Burgerman demo on YouTube. Still amazed at it! Thanks for the intro!
