Hey guys, recently saved enough money and was thinking of changing my pups on my PRS SE Custom 24 25th Anni and was looking at DiMarzio and SD. Was kind of thinking for those who used the JB/59' or the JB/Jazz, how does it sound to you compared to the Liquifire and Crunchlab

I play mostly rock and gospel, quite abit of funk, jazz and blues, hardly metal but occasionally lah.

What I really want is that 'open-ness'. Not sure if it makes sense, but somehow I feel with the PRS, the stock pup's are really nice, but somehow they're like... being 'capped'? Like something is restraining the pups.

Actually the feel that I really want is like when you play an Open E, you can hear all the notes in the chord ring out, clarity aswell :P.

If not these pickups, any other alternatives? My budget's about... 300 for both?

I vote for the crunchlab and liquifire. currently have them on my guitar. the clarity of the bass is freakin awesome. mine's on a 7 string so if it can make the low B sound nice it can do anything.

Yeah my vote goes to the crunchlab and liquifire if u want clearity even in high gain, i have them in my ebmm JP6 and they smoke! As compared to the JB and 59' which i also have in my edwards lp.....honestly it depends on your tone palette......the JB and 59' really cover the old school wooly rock tone really well too. Simply put the dimarzios are more modern sounding/feel pups and the SDs are more vintage in those aspect.

But if u want tight high gain crunch tone to nice warm clear clean tone, the crunchlab and liquifire is the way to go imo.

a set of liquifire and crunch lab should set you back by about $200 with the exchange rate at $1.22 now. try finding them at sv guitars or find a way to get them shipped from us, over musiciansfriend.

ive gotta say, if youre looking for clarity you would do best looking for pickups that arent wound too hot. its more a compromise. there isnt any do all be all pickup so you gotta find that balance. underwound pickups have great clarity, but dont work too well under high gain situations due to having too much clarity, you would get too much highs. then again if you go for pickups wound hot, you would have alot more midrange to work with but have loads of compression which would work great if youre always using lots of gain, but the cleans would definitely be somewhat lacking.
