Dilemma regarding cymbal deal

First of all i would like to say that when the deal was done,he was on his way to camp and my house was near to his camp...it was at night and i just tested the crash cymbal without actually playin a song with it...on the next day i had my a levels papers and only got to play my drumset yesterday when i really tested the cymbals and got to know that the cymbal is not for me...i know this may sound like an excuse to you all but it is really my true situation...

first of all alvin said to me after the deal that if i have any problems,i can call him back...well...i did,by sayin the crash aint right for me and i told him that i only got the chance to play it yesterday...i state my concerns to him regardin his crash by callin and sms-ing him...and he was really nice on the phone to think of a way to settle it...

i know its a deal here...but i was just askin for a change back with no obligations...i did not coerce him to REALLY reverse the deal like what you've thought i was to be (its funny how the internet forums creates false intimacies and emotions)...and i did not have any bad intentions of reversin the deal cos its really a win-lose situation to me...yes i know i've got a more expensive crash but that was not just the case...

anyway, its a lesson learnt for me and i wanna apologise to alvin,a fellow softies,if he's pissed off or what...i reiterate again that i really was statin my concerns abt the crash and i really dont mean to force you to reverse the deal...

oh by the way,i do play experimentals and needed the dark crash too...oh well..the dark thin k crash...all the best alvin..i have no hard feelings on you...

haha yeah man.. but many of us are just pissed with idiots that back out so often ist damn irritating la.. so ya.. sometimes its genuine excuses next is some lame made up excuse. like my.... broke down.. no money for drums..

no lah farid i wasn't pissed, i just wanted an audience to see if i made the right decision.

i actually asked a handful of people after u asked me to swap back when i was in camp.

my initial reaction really was a knee-jerk, WTF? followed by a few minutes of me thinking of what i should do. i talked to my teacher, and a few of my other friends, and they all told me that i shouldn't reverse the swap because technically, i wasn't obliged to.

i was about to agree to swapping back with u because i've been on the end of deals that i've regretted nad i know how u feel, but then after a while i decided not to because it really went against my principal. if i open up the door to swap with one single buyer, wouldn't it be unfair to a lot of others whom i have refused to change with so far?

hope u understand, i'll also post ads for you on luther and ask around if anybody wants to buy it. i'll advertise the price at your highest i saw on the boards, at $250. to my knowledge, yamaha has stopped bringint it in.

imo..once dealed considered closed..

ur situation is lik if a guy goes to a chicken rice stall and buys a plate of chicken rice and only after eating few mouthful realise the food isn't nice and ask the uncle can refund ornot..

if u say food can't be compared to cymabls..then wad bout a guy who goes to patronise from a prostitute and only after nailing him/her for 5mins his nt satisfied and asks for a change of prostitute..

ahh..im realli bored in class..haha..but jus my 2 cents

It's nice to hear that it's been resolve now...no hard feelings Bros - it does happens...

Anyway Bro farid & Alvyn, please do join us in our this very Soft Drum Xchange Meetup this Saturday.....nice to meet all the drummers.

sigh. hard to resell things now. people bargaining for cheap prices with lame excuses like "I'm only a student, I have very limited budget can cheaper or not?" to "Eh I saw someone selling your crash at a cheaper price" but when asked where, he says he can't remember.

Oi the first reason is not lame...I admit i'm one of them, but i'm serious about the reason. My family is not very well-off and I do consider our income level below average, that's why when I need to buy something I always have to bargain and keep my family's finances in mind. It's a truth and a way of life - Not everyone has the money on hand to buy whatever he or she wants.

However, I do agree that the second reason is lame hahaha. Saw someone selling crash at cheaper price then get from the person lor. -.-

Hmm... okay I'll try to put this across in a very tactful way because I'm aware that when money comes into play, emotions are heightened and words get taken out of context sometimes.

First of all, let me clarify that statement that I made almost a year ago. My statement was not targeted at economically less-sound people. Bargaining, like it or not, is part and parcel of our everyday lives as Singaporeans - this is what makes us who we are.

However, unneeded and excessive bargaining is completely unwanted and definitely not needed at all. My stand is very firm on this.

Simply put, not everybody is well off monetarily.

You say that "It's a truth and a way of life - Not everyone has the money on hand to buy whatever he or she wants.", in reference to what I said, "people bargaining for cheap prices with lame excuses like "I'm only a student, I have very limited budget can cheaper or not?" ".

I do not disagree in any way that not everybody's rich and well off. But let me put forth a simple question to you, and anybody who might be reading this - have you ever taken into consideration that the seller might not be well off too?

I'm an undergrad, and my "income" is determined by how much I work part time, when I have time to spare from school and other activities. I do not deny that my family is above middle-income, but I have not taken a single cent from my parents for my hobby, and for that matter, my monthly allowance, since I completed my A levels. Needless to say, whatever gear I have was paid for through work and saving up. Thus when I decide to get new gear, I'll either have to save up a little more, or resell my other stuff. At the same time, I know that it isn't fair for me to expect to profit a lot from my deals, so I usually just ask for an amount that is sufficient to cover my next purchase with as little monetary loss to me as possible.

So how do you think I'll feel when a potential buyer tells me that because he's a student, he or she hopes that I can give a way lower price? I don't feel happy about it at all.

IMHO, buying and selling of gear is a very simple process. When you're negotiating with the seller, put yourself in his or her shoes. Think about how you'd feel if someone were to try to undercut you for your sale. At the same time, when you're selling stuff, think about how the buyer will feel if you jack up your price and quote stupidly insane prices.

I do not harbour any ill-intention towards any seller who tells me that he or she has seen a crash (or whatever I'm selling) on another site being resold at a lower price. If its true, I'll definitely drop me price to match the other seller, and I'll tell the buyer that its up to him or her to make the transaction.

I apologise for this long long post, but I think its good to make these points clear. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to build good relationships with the buyer or seller, because if they know that you're a fair person, they will offer you more deals in the future if they have any.

Anyway, what on earth possessed you to bump this thread :O

Oh shit eric, I just saw your post too about the drum meet. Sorry I couldn't make it... I'm having my examinations at the moment and they'll only end on the 5th dec. Sigh.

Bump? I wasn't bumping the thread O.o

With response to your side of the argument, that is why there always has to be a compromise between the buyer and the seller. The buyer wouldn't know the income level of the seller, and vice versa, that's why there's this "price negotiable" thing around. If the seller can afford to let go of the product at the bargained price, why not?

Haha no no not you.. the previous people who replied. Wha its a 1 yr old bump man.

Hmm.. I think income level shouldn't come into play when you're buying/selling. Because ultimately we have to assume (at least for me) that the party you're dealing with has his or her reasons for going 2nd hand. So both parties can't be too greedy and ask for a damn high price, similarly both parties can't cut the price down to a really low price, that's what I meant by the balance between both parties.

I guess every buyer/seller has his or her own "ethics" and moral code to work by. For me, I'll drop the price as low as possible without making too much of a reasonable loss myself, unless the item being sold is in really bad condition. When I'm buying gear, if its the good condition, I wouldn't mind paying slightly more for sure.

Ah well... haha like what I told marcdadrummer that day when I met him to pass him the sensitone... "The best transaction is cashless - trading gear and equipment. When no money's involved, confirm no problems."
