Dilemma regarding cymbal deal

Hi guys, need your advice on a deal that I felt went wrong in the other party's favour.

I put up an ad for my crash, requesting either a trade or a direct purchase, and someone offered me a trade for his 15" crash that I'd been looking for some time. I agreed, and made the trip down to his place for him to try my crash out. He said he liked it, and that he would like to swap with me.

I agreed to the swap even though his cymbal had slight corrosion and there were signs that it wasn't well mantained. My crash is in 10/10 condition, logos were intact, with no defects whatsoever.

However, a few days after the trade, the buyer contacted me on my hp and said that he didn't like the sound and wanted to swap back with me.

Now, even though I felt that once a deal's gone thru, it wasn't gentlemanly to insist on going back on the deal, I felt that perhaps his decision had been too rash.

Bros, I need advice. What would you do if you were in my shoes? I'm quite pissed because I feel that its quite incorrect.

Btw the crashes in question are an 18" Avedis Medium crash for a 15" K dark thin crash.

if u like his cymbals..

tell him..

NO WAY!

cos after all..its his mistake wad..ur cymbals in good condition..

i mean..u cant juz return something on the basis of "i dun like the sound"..

so in my opinion..u have the right to refuse.

Both of u already agreed to it. So as how it stands now, its rightfully yours. U have every rite to refuse it. Although there's no written agreement or contract involve, its an implied agreement, which actually when contested, u have the advantage.

Yeah, the only reason I can think of where it would be fair to reverse the deal is one where if you misrepresented the item and he didn't know what he was getting, and found out it was different, hairline crack, etc.

Otherwise, if he's seen it, and touched it in person, change his mind = buyer's remorse, get over it. Rash decision? He has to learn how to make better decisions in future then.

This is very personal, perhaps you're a very nice person, no one can stop you from being nice :)

Maybe you can suggest to charge a "fee" for your inconvenience and goodwill if you do give him the option of reversing.

I wouldn't do it as a buyer, nor would I expect it as a seller.

yeah man tell him no... he nedds to learn his lesson.. people now adays keep going back on their words.. i'm damn irritated by such people.. although the buyer is alwaysx right. but they always agree then in the end come up with some excuse and sae dun wan. wa lao lor..

Haha thanks for the kind comments guys. Indeed, its personal, but the thing is that I hate having a spoilt deal because it means one less potential buyer the next time I have anything to let go of.

Ok basically he told me thru SMS that he felt that the crash was very "loud" compared to his other cymbals. For the record, I went to his place to try his crash, and for him to try mine, and most of his crashes are small crashes, and iirc the largest (apart from mine) was a 15". In his own words, he's a "death metal drummer", so I told him truthfully that the 18" would suit his music, because no way will a 15" k dark crash cut thru the mix if he's playing death metal, and he seemed happy about it.

I've decided to stand by the simple fact that the deal went thru smoothly, and I didn't coerce him into swapping the crash. In fact, he was the one who iniated the swap with me after I posted my ad.

I agree, integrity is indeed lacking among alot of people nowadays, teenagers and adults alike. I've had more than one potential buyer back out just 1 or 2 days before dealing, or sellers letting their stuff go after agreeing to wait til fris or sats to deal with me (I'm still serving NS so fris and sats are the only days I'm free. 50 MORE WORK DAYS TO ORD!!!!)

At this point of time, I won't bother if I don't appear to be kind or understanding because of a selfish reason - I like the crash and it suits my kind of music perfectly! I've decided not to agree to his re-swap, and keep his crash.

Thanks for everything guys!

be a man..do the right thing.

he wants to change u say "NO!"

"u wanna change back..u must gimme ur drumset too..as compensation for time wastage."

:D

Eee I don't want his drumset man. i think my cheapass stagestar will sound better than his, and is more well mantained as compared to his haha.

Yeah man, I'm super glad to finally get a 15" k dark crash. I was hoping to sell the 18" to finance a 15" hh dark crash, but the K dark crash really beats it hands down man. No fight at all.

Awesome crash, will recommend to anybody who wants a small crash haha.

yeap.. great to know ur deal is done and over with... potential buyers nowadays always come up with this stereotype reason...

on the day prior to deal, well in my case he said " hey im stuck at camp can i get back to you on next saturday?"

than 2 days later " sorry to say that i can't buy ur pedals due to unforseen circumstances"... people nowadays!! i've already turned down 3 offers just for him since he already said YES TO DEAL but back out at the last minute...

beware when u get these type of people to deal... next time:D

imo just let go. make it clear that you are not going to do reservations, and its a first come first serve. no worries :D

Boh bian.. sometimes its really hard to trust people unless you know them personally, or some guy feeling tells you that he/she is really sincere about buying it.

in my case, i kena arrow to do duty on a sat i was supposed to buy hats from a seller, so i didn't have a choice but to tell him. thankfully he was understanding and kept it one more week for me. he was quite glad that i told him actually.

sigh. hard to resell things now. people bargaining for cheap prices with lame excuses like "I'm only a student, I have very limited budget can cheaper or not?" to "Eh I saw someone selling your crash at a cheaper price" but when asked where, he says he can't remember.

Urgh.
