differentiating MIK and MIC epiphone stuff

i know someone with an epi dot with no stickers or serials.
he went to china and had someone smuggle one out from a factory (didnt say which).
was selling it for about $430 with hardcase.

i was thinking its a fake, cos of the non-existent sticker inside the body and no serial number.
those two are obviously done before the guitar is fixed up and lacquered over.
doesnt play as well either.

so either they skipped those steps in the epi factory (person in charge is doing it for personal profit / stolen item), or its a fake.

yes, there were fake / rejected MIK epiphones previously that were sold, but only in korea, unless some individual ships them out / or evilbay it.
heres an old link for fake / rejected MIKs.

and china fakes? well everyone knows that :P

quote from the source.

"If you are purchasing a new Epiphone from an authorized dealer in the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan or other "export" country, rest assured that these are high-quality instruments worthy of the name Epiphone - carrying our limited Lifetime Warranty and backed by the Gibson Musical Instruments."

so unless G77 takes the stock from sweelee, who are the official dealer, then well, make up your own story :P

Wow without serials? I'd think twice about getting them....

And from what I know there's still some Epi's MIK. Konicashoes just sold one 06' Goldtop MIK I believe. Guess its rare but maybe still in production time time to time?

Hmm.

My MIK G-400 has no serial number, has the headstock sprayed over with black lacquer and I got I pretty cheap (<S$500). Can I say it's a fake? No. It had that Made In Korea sticker pasted on it.

What's more it has stock Grover tuners. I went to swee lee when they had the MIK G-400 selling at $800 and I could not tell any difference between my guitar and the ones tehy sold.

How I know it's not a fake? the lacquer coat on the headstock is very thin and under sunlight you can actually make out the Epiphone brand and even the "crown" inlay.

Want to know where I bought it? PM me.

clem: i'm robin. what hollow-bodied-bass is it?

oh btw, remember guys telling us of epiphone products not meeting the specs? like epi lp custom made of PLYwood? i remember very clearly who told me this.
