Difference between licks and solos.

Can anyone explain it to me?

btw, I switch on the air con every night, will it warp my guitar's neck?

a solo is made up of licks. licks is just a short phrase of notes.

no it wouldn't warp your neck. I switch on the airconditioner in the night in my room where i put my guitars and i switch it off in the morning as well. I don't bring my guitar out until it acclimatises to the tempature, or till the room cools down to room temperature.

ditto repulse87.

if you switch on the aircon @ night & put your guitar out in the sun during the day, then it'll warp. i'm sure this isn't the case, yes?

i think it depends whether there's a truss rod you're talking about here... also whether it's an acoustic or electric.

i think if it's an acoustic, then try not to put it under temperature changes too much.

bolt-on electrics imo are probably more temperature-resistant imo. you can still adjust from both sides even if it starts to warp. but yeah, again try not to put it under temperature changes too much.

i put my fender in my warwick bag under my bed, away from the direct air con. And the air conditioning is at most the same temperature from a normal rainy night in Singapore. So i think that doesn't affect the guitar too much.

Dont mind, borrow this thread. Im using a warwick and the warwick headstock area got this super duper big thick sponge like thingy.

so when i rest my guitar on it, it will somehow be tilted. somehow ABIT slanted when resting it on the floor.

will this cause the neck to warp?

I believe the sponge thing is supposed to provide support, so most likely it won't warp.
Anyone care to enlighten us?
I'm placing my Squier P-bass in a Fender gig bag with ample padding flat across the floor? Any problems with that? :?

There is no space under my bed! :o Can I just put it in my fender gig bag and lean it against the wall?

i think it would be ok if your bag is those thick ones.

otherwise leaning (for days) imo isn't something really that good since your headstock has a reaction force with the wall for long periods of time.

at least putting it lying down, the guitar headstock has only exertion from the force of gravity alone.

hm, confused liao! I place my epi les paul in my ritter padded bag and lean it against the wall... not ok ah :?

Hmm for purposes and intents of this question, i think it's ok. there isn't much reaction force from the wall to the epi.

But just to let you give an idea of what i feel about leaning electrics on the wall:

my friend last time placed his guitar on a sofa with the neck leaning on the wall. for quite some time. (maybe 2-3weeks? a month?) At a particularly wide angle. (So you can imagine the very end of the headstock on the wall end, the end of the body on the sofa end.)

so just ask yourself: would your guitar neck be strained by the reaction force from the wall over a period of time?

for me, I would rather just leave the guitar lying down if possible.

just my 2 cents.

if u want to put the guitar leaning on the wall, make sure that the guitar is facing the wall, not facing AGAINST the wall

I'm totally against leaning the guitar against the wall for extended periods of time. Get a guitar stand man. Cheapest 20 odd. Better safe than sorry.

Haha, yeah i got a guitar stand... but i always thought leaving it in the bag is safer than placing it on the stand the whole day? :? lol sorry, damn noob.
