DI Box

Hi all, I would like to know which DI boxes are good. Any recommendations? Was thinking of the Behringer DI100...

Also, can anyone tell me where to find BBE and Radial DI boxes in Singapore?

Radial JDI or Countryman Type 85. I believe you can get Radial boxes from Misse.
If you're looking for studio application, I'd go with the Avalon U5 or A-Designs REDDI.

The Radials and Countrymans are pretty much industry standards. Haven't used a Countryman so I can't really comment but I've got a Radial JDI and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a passive DI.

Countryman and Radial are the standards, yes. But if budget is an issue, you may also want to check out Tapco and / or LA Audio. But stay away from Behringer man... thats some noisy stuff. :-)

I think the Behringer GI100 and DI100 are great. The DI120 is the noisy one.

If you want the DI for stage or rehearsal then the Behringer ones are fine. I doubt anyone would be able to hear the difference between any of the DI's mentioned in that situation.

In the studio I'd rather a transparent sounding DI and go for a tube preamp for the coloring.

Hey guys thanks for the recommendations! My friend was telling me for bass I'll need to get an active one because passive DI boxes are too weak for it, and radial's J48 is quite out of budget...but then again how's the J48? Was actually thinking of getting the ProDI. Anyways, my friend recommended the Boss DI-1 though..is that a good choice?

That's not necessarily true... the DI box is just supposed to convert your high impedance signal to a low impedance one. The transformer is supposed to take care of that, so just make sure you're getting a good one before anything else.

If you're on a budget, check out the Whirlwind IMP DI. They are pretty cheap but they get the job done. I have no experience with the Boss DI-1.

+1 to countryman type 85 DI box

Quiet, transparent, built like tanks. Run a truck over them and you can probably still use them.

thumbs up to those who said countryman type 85. i agree too. behringer sucks. never touch them.

I disagree — I had a Behringer DI400P (which is essentially a Whirlwind IMP clone) and it worked alright for live use. Nothing spectacular, but it worked. Some Behringer stuff is fine, you just have to know what you're buying first.
