I have a 10 years old Technics Digital Piano, I'm desperately looking for the 5 pin MIDI cable to USB and Audio recording cable to my MAC.. My question is, since my piano is TEchnics, do i have to look for Technics brand of cable for capability? Can i just use other brands of cables like Yamaha.

Where is the best place to look for wide ranges of MIDI and Audio Recording cables? thanks!!!!!!!!!!

FYI: My piano's 5 pin MIDI comes in THRU OUT and IN jack....And a LINE OUT and AUX IN. If i'm looking for audio recording, what kinda of cable should i use?

u can go to music store like sinamex . they sell midi to usb .

or other store. even computer store they sell it.

no you dont need tecnic brand just to use midi.

for audio..use line out cable (is it red and white ? or just hole) hold get TRS cable loh..

ur mac... how r u going to connect the keyboard to the mac for audio.. u need to get trs - converter,.. best if you can get a audio interface...

remember... midi only send data not audio..

u can use garageband so that u use midi for triggering the sound in garageband. (and i think it will sound better than ur 10 year old technic piano sound)

Just called up the store in PEACE Centre, that sales guy said he has a 2 out and 1 MIDI cable in for my thru,in,out piano.

As for Audio Recording, he mention i need an audio mixer device? but can i just use a software audio mixer? I just started out....so wanna take a try first before buying it. And i need another audio interface? what's the diff between audio interface and audio mixer? Ohya.. the LINE is just 2 holds with R/RL and L. AUX is R/RL and L.

Are you planning to record the sound of the technics piano? Or are you planning to use the piano as a midi controller for a DAW software (like garageband)?

1. Record sound of technics piano - You don't even need a midi cable. Depending on the audio output of the piano (i'm guessing 1/4" line), just get an audio cable to connect it to the mic in of your mac and record away. This can be bought at ranking music or novelty music for a few bucks.

If you want higher fidelity, you need an audio interface (basically an external soundcard that connects to your mac by USB) which have built-in pre-amps and Analog to Digital converters. The quality of your recording will be much better. They cost somwhere btw a few hundred bucks to a few grand, so perhaps you wanna try try with the 1st method b4 investing.

2. Midi controller - as one of the forumners suggest above, you may want to use the piano as a "controller" for Garageband. You need to plug a midi out to USB cable from the piano to your mac and you're good to go. The sound will be produced from garageband.

Hi thanks for the helpful reply!!

Basically What i want is to record actual piano sound, like what you said...i think i should start off with just a cable alone. To connect to my mac's mic that means connecting it to the Audio line in right? As seen http://www.apple.com/macbook/white/specs.html under (connections and expansion).

As for other purpose, i need the MIDI to record the piano pieces into notes and possibly edit them. It is possible to playback the pieces on garageband but the sound will be played by the instrument in garageband.
