- Live In Singapore!

Lushington Entertainments is proud to present DEEP PURPLE – the legendary British hard rock act. With over 100 million album sales to date, DEEP PURPLE are back in Singapore by popular demand and will perform on 12th May 2010 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, Deep Purple are considered to be one of the pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock. Formed in 1968, the band still remains one of the hardest touring rock acts on the road almost as well known for its frequent changes of line-up as for its music. Deep Purple’s current line-up comprises of members: Don Airy, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse and Ian Paice.

Securing US and European success in the late 1960’s the band mastered its signature rock sound with extensive touring and song writing on the road. Recording albums at a prolific rate, it wasn’t until 1971 that the band recorded (arguably) its most enduring album Machine Head including tracks that became live classics such as "Highway Star", "Space Truckin'", "Lazy" and "Smoke on the Water".The album was due to be recorded at a casino in Montreux, using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, but a fire during a Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention gig burned down the casino. The album was actually recorded at the nearby empty Grand Hotel. This incident famously inspired the song "Smoke on the Water". In 1972 the band undertook four North America tours and the August tour of Japan that led to a double-vinyl live release, Made in Japan. Originally intended as a Japan-only record, its worldwide release saw the double LP become an instant smash hit. The album continues to be one of rock music's most popular and highest selling live-concert recordings.

Now with 18 albums to its credit, Deep Purple continue to record and garner success. Most recently 2005’s album Rapture of the Deep secured US and European chart success, once again delighting fans old and new. New recordings are eagerly awaited.

BAND MEMBERS

There have been eight different line-ups of Deep Purple. The original Mark I line-up of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, drummer Ian Paice, singer Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper released three albums, before Evans and Simper were replaced by Ian Gillan and Roger Glover respectively to create Mark II. The second line-up is regarded as the "classic" Deep Purple, recording In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head and Who Do We Think We Are; this line-up lasted until 1973, when Gillan (followed by Glover) left the band. David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes joined to create Deep Purple Mark III, though co-founding member and guitarist Blackmore left in 1975 to be replaced by Tommy Bolin. Mark IV lasted only a year and disbanded for what would become eight years after a concert at the Empire, Liverpool, on 15 March 1976.

While on hiatus, members concentrated on other projects, including Rainbow (Blackmore and Glover), Whitesnake (Coverdale, Lord and Paice), Black Sabbath (Gillan and Hughes, at different times) and Gillan.

Deep Purple reunited in 1984 with the Mark II line-up of Gillan, Blackmore, Glover, Paice and Lord. Gillan and Blackmore had a disagreement and the vocalist was fired from the band and replaced by Blackmore's former bandmate in Rainbow, Joe Lynn Turner. Turner remained until 1992, when the Mark II line-up came together for the third time. Due to continuing conflicting interests between Gillan and Blackmore, the guitarist left the band for good in the middle of 1993's The Battle Rages On tour. He was replaced with Joe Satriani for the remainder of the shows. Satriani could not join the band permanently due to contractual issues.

Steve Morse was chosen to be Blackmore's full-time replacement in 1994, and he remains the guitarist to this day. In 2002 the most recent line-up change took place when Lord, who had been in every incarnation of the band to this point, left to pursue personal interests. He was replaced by Don Airey, formerly of Rainbow and Ozzy Osbourne's band, to create the current Mark VIII line-up. Drummer Paice is now the only member left who has been present in every line-up of Deep Purple since the band's formation in 1968.

i thought they were awesome!!.. i mean god, their old!!... u want them in tights jumping up and down? i thought they put up a show best way they could.. and come on, most of the crowd was prob THEIR age.. i mean you wanted to see moshing??? i enjoyed it, and so did my dad... hey i say great stuff..

Most of the audience were people adults not a bunch of angsty youths who go to live shows to mosh. In fact the sight of some balding old fat men jumping up and down is eye opening.

totally. agree.. to see the old rocker in my dad screaming next to me... it was pretty fun really hahaha... but hey we'll get there some day, may not be as 'happening' anymore but we'll still love our music!... those that KNOW the music better than us seem to have enjoyed themselves completely.. i think thats a sign of a successful gig...

i thought it was great! Ian Gillan was amazing, and so was Morse!

was totally in the sky when they played Hush, haha

Ian Paice is really fat.

Beers were 10dollars a can. Not a fan of Victoria Bitter anyway.

I loved Don Airey though! Rasa Sayang Ehhhhhhhh

yea, Don Airey is great as well!

was really bumped when Jon Lord left, because previously he is the only one that made me love Deep Purple.

but i think they found a really really suitable replacement, hahah.

Jon Lord approved Don Airey!!!

yes! he was so fluid!

didn't really like him previously, because i thought his style is a bit off for deep purple..

but yesterday, omg...
