Boss DE7 analogue test
I have this pedal. It's not analogue but a very good simulation. Very warm and atmospheric. The delay mode leaves much to be desired.
Anyway, I did get to test a Boss DM3 side by side with this one and here are the results:
1) The decaying pattern of the DE7 is different from the DM3, can't explain but basically a different graph shape?
2)The decaying on the DE7 is too perfect compared to the analogue DM3 which has very very short delay time available. Its like CGI star wars ships to the original model star wars ships type of difference. You see, in true analogues there's no such thing as a 2.6 second decaying echo. Only in such digital pedals is it possible.
3) There's a lot of reverb in the DE7 which explains the warm sound. In fact too much but useful for most situations. Most people wont care. Just a matter of how anal you want to be.
4) The DM3 sounds more like the records. But the DE7 holds its own very well.
5) The DE7 echo is too fast for me. Well....I mean I cant nail the rockabilly and surf slapback echos well enough. But its still alright.
6) The self-oscillations of both are totally different and cool in their own right. No preferences here.
7) The DE7's echos can be a little sharp for some. Dont remember the DM3's though.
I set the DE7 to match the DM3 to see how well it emulates it at various settings. Pretty good and worth the money. The Boss . although analogue and highly collectable , is seriously hyped out and overpriced. The DE7 may not be very analogue-ish but makes up damn well for what it lacks.
