daisy chain vs power supply

hi just curious to noe whats the dif between using a power supply to power a lot of pedals as compared to linking all of them via a daisy chain connected to a single power adaptor thanks :)

The 1spot is a power supply.

Daisy chaining refers to connecting more than one pedal to a single power supply.

Some pedals may play havoc on some power supplies, so daisy chained with other effects, may affect them too.

Isolated power supplies help with this problem, you can see it as having multiple 1spots. You can daisy chain the individual isolated outputs to multiple pedals too if you find that it doesn't cause problems.

wad u're refering to is basically the same thing:

1. a power supply to power a lot of pedals = 1 adaptor to many pedals??

2. daisy chain connected to a single power adaptor = 1 adaptor providing power for many pedals using a daisy chain cable.

okay bro, lets take this from the top.

power supply = voodo labs pedalpower, dunlop dc brick. these take up one socket, connected to a regulator which has a number of seperate outputs, and each of these outputs, the cable runs into one pedal.

Daisy chain = one adaptor like the boss PSA, 1spot, etc. with only one cable, which is connected to a daisy chain cable (1 input, 5 output) all in one cable. 8)

That's not right.

Power supply = voodo labs pedalpower, dunlop dc brick, 1Spot, Boss adapter, cheapo adapter from hardware shop.

Daisy chaining = the act of connecting multiple equipments to a single supply.

Daisy chain = the product we use to achieve the above.

Can daisy chains be connected to another daisy chain to power more than 5 pedals?

Would there be any side effects?

yes they can be with no side effects, unless u cross the current threshold listed on the adaptor XXXXma or XXXXA, usually the former.

but not to worry, if using <5 pedals it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm powering 14 pedals with a single 1spot. And that includes two digital delays, the dd20 and an old korg. No problems.

As long as the supply can supply enough current, and there aren't any noise issues, it's fine.

hey thanks for the replies... so erm what ur trying to say is i can just use a cheapo adaptor with daisy chains to power multiple pedals (as long as all the pedals run on the same voltage?)? rather than getting a dc brick/voodoo labs pedal power?

yeah but the likelihood of a cheapo adaptor frying ur pedals due to unregulated voltage (the voltage supplied by those cheapo adaptors are not usually at 9V, they're usually higher!) is darn high.

if cheapo adaptors work, why do ppl still get the dc brick or the pedal power 2?

but as long as my pedals are all same volatage powered should be ok rite? maybe i wont get so al cheapo la... perhaps a boss 9v adaptor shoud not go wrong rite?

As long as you get a regulated power supply, and there's enough current for all your pedals, they will turn be ok. You might have hum or other noise issues, but they will work. A psa boss 9v adapter is regulated, but does not provide that much current. As long as the pedals you're using uses less current than it provides, it will work.

if you've got a longer chain of effects and wana save some cash, i really think the 1spot's better than the boss psa though. theres alot of power eater pedals out there aye.

nysk, are ... you trying to be funny?

If not, then well, google please. The search SOFT for a TON of posts on the 1Spot.

If you are trying to be funny... well... hehe...
