“ Based on the unabashed silliness of the Datarock uniform—a red hoodie, red sweatpants, and mirrored visors –this band is refreshingly brazen about having fun. Their songs reference the dance rock of Franz Ferdinand, the angular zaniness of Devo and the geeky white boy funk of Hot Chip. There wasn't a still person in the room. ”

Already home to indie-pop luminaries like the Kings of Convenience, Röyksopp, & Annie, Bergen's southwest coast would be a fertile proving ground for their exploits. DIY punk rockers by nature, but heavily influenced by the distinctive style and stage presence of groups like Talking Heads and Devo, the boys decided to ditch the thrash guitars in favor of the simple yet versatile Casio MT-64 keyboard and a Roland Groovebox. Toss in matching red track suits, a penchant for Transformers and John Hughes flicks, and two pairs of vintage Porsche wraparound sunglasses and you've got a little something called DATAROCK.

Villains, Home Club and Zirca have come together in a rare situation where a creative culture agency and two of Singapore’s top nightclubs are collaborating as joint partners to put on this event. Out of the simple love of good music, these three partners share a vital vision in spearheading a movement in cultivating and inviting the world’s top and most cutting edge music artists to Singapore’s shores to not just give the public what they want, but to provide more of an experience that will expose local Singaporeans to what we collectively deem as the most exciting and critically important international music acts of today, hopefully turning Singapore into South East Asia’s capital of experiencing the most vital and critically music performers of today that are in high demand in the Western hemisphere.

In December of 2000, Datarock made their debut setting off a high-energy disco inferno fuelled by sparse electro-rock rhythms and infectious pop guitar hooks in their small town of Bergen, Norway. Their low-fi live shows soon became the stuff of legend.
In a brilliant show of foresight-and possibly a bit of obsessive compulsivity - Datarock did what any young aspiring professionals would do upon recognizing the rapid growth of their empire-they formed a label on which to release their material. While starting as a duo, the main touring group consists of four core members, Fredrik Saroea, Kjetil Moester, Thomas Larssen & Targei Strom, but their massive list of collaborators and members of Datarock lies at an impressive 45 people – each live show rotating amongst this eccentric community of musicians & performers – once even performing at the European Grammy Awards with all 45 red-hooded Datarockers on stage.
Datarock has since played over 300 shows in 16 different countries, including 15,000+ at the Good Vibrations Festival in Sydney and 10,000+ screaming maniacs at the Meredith Music Festival near Melbourne.
Can one become the peak of pop evolution by cleverly and respectfully mining the vaults of our most beloved generation?
If you happen to be four scruffy-faced, young aspiring professionals from the seaside town of Bergen, then the answer is “Yes.”

► VILLAINS
VILLAINS is a new formidable creative entity focused setting trends instead of following them. With expertise in creative direction, art & graphic design, events, viral marketing strategies, branding, programming & curation, exhibitions, & new media to list a few, there are simply no boundaries that this agency is afraid to venture into. With a vision to break out of stale creative trends and movements by remaining artistically critical in their work
while pushing the envelope creatively, they seek to fulfill true meaning & reason behind their work outside of aesthetics and meeting a profitable objective. They’re vision is to empower our community/industry and act as a creative catalyst in producing internationally acclaimed work for their highly diverse client base and collaborators alike.
VILLAINS shouldn’t be defined as just a simple creative agency. With their firm understanding of art theory, popular culture trends, and relentlessness in being borderless in the projects they take up, VILLAINS is more defined as a Think Tank for any endeavor that requires a vivid imagination, bold creativity and professional execution. Rhyme and
reason, this is VILLAINS.
