Cymbals for a beginner

Hi all ,Firdie here .

I am just starting drumming soon and I wanna know if there is any good/affordable/durable/nice sounding/lasting cymbal set for my replacement of
my stock Pearl Forum's cymbals .

I know that cymbals are a very personal choice but there are so many Zildjian/Sabian/Paiste/Istanbul(Agop/Mehmet) cymbals out there but I wanna narrow down my choices .

I really appreciate your efforts recommending me a cymbal set .

BTW can you guys affix an estimate price tag (brand new/2nd hand) to it .

Thanks a million !

Softies rule !

hmm well it all depends on your budget really, and the tone that ur looking for if u want u could get a paiste pst3 or pst5 set not sure of the price though. besides that b8s xs20 are great too.. just my 2 cents

paiste 101 and 201 are really cheap. one 16 inch crash is less than $100. so if you do the math, a whole set (2 crash, 1 ride, 1 hi-hat) could jolly well be less than $400.

I know the price of a Xs20 set.

I bought the promotional pack which included:
- Regular 14" Hi-hats
- 16" Crash
- Free 18" Crash
- Regular 20" Ride

The price was around $700+ but there was a sale going on so I got it for $500+ only. :D

And I saved up myself k. Hehehe.

A sensible choice would be to buy those package set, may it be zildjian, Sabian, Paiste or Istanbul... From you post, i believe you are just starting out and will probably be using it for practicing purpose. Therefore not really a major consideration from the sound prospective.

Reasons why you should go for the package set, you can have a quick start up as those packages consist of hihats, ride & crashes. All ready to rock!! I am not entirely sure but i believe the set are also sound matched. Like i say i am not entirely sure but do some read up in Zildjian and Sabian website for more information.

It will save you quite a lot of money as compare to you buying cymbals individually. As for 2nd hand options, most often then not the cymbals that people want to sell are from the higher end range. Those are very good cymbals but of course the price will also be expensive as compare to you getting a brand new package set which some bros here mentioned $500+ during sale.

Honestly, as you mentioned you are starting to learn drums and I assume you are a beginner, don't get too caught up with buying high end cymbals or how the cymbal sounds, get those average package set to start off. Take some time to learn the instrument, as you go along and you are certain of your interest then start investing on the gears. This is a great way to approach because you give yourself time to understand, develop a ear for cymbals and find out what exactly you are looking for and how you want the cymbal to sound. This will narrow down your choices in selecting cymbals.

Cymbals usually last quite long. However, it all depends on how much abuse you put on it and the technic you apply in crashing the cymbals. Rides and hihats usually last much longer then crashes...

I hope the above is useful and happy searching...

Hi Yanyek, that is a very wise option... Don't have to get good cymbals if you are developing your drumming chops... If you excel in whatever you are using now... imagine how great you will sound if given a great kit!!! You have to access yourself what is the reason to buying cymbals. Do you already know what sound or cymbal you have in mind to play? This does not mean getting what's hot or popular in the market. But truly what you want the cymbal to sound and feel. Stating the obvious, you can start searching a great sounding ride and hi hats... But trust me... knowing Singapore market, its very difficult to get what you actually want unless buy through internet...

Keeping practicing man... all the best!

Really ,thank you all for your opinion and I really appreciate your effort compiling this information however I have decided to get a roland HD-1 is the noise of my shitty vantage 10W amp got police knocking on my doors .
