hey people i am looking into building up a bass of my own i would like to know firstly what parts do i have to look out for. parts that are of upmost importance that i should not be stingy about and parts that i can save slightly a bit more cash on. Secondly is if i would like to order them online where can i get them and would it be cheaper? Can i just get all the parts and pass it to a luthier to fix it up?

well i think pick ups are really important and getting a good one is definitely a necessity

i hear lotsa good things about lindy fralins u can order them thru tymusic
another type is nordstrands get them thru cherns at rdm

well the fun part of building something is learning how to build it yourself. then, you'll learn how each instrument works and therefore understand your instrument more. it's a great experience.

if you go to other bass forums like ultimateguitar or talkbass, you'll find lots of DIY bass threads. i'm sure you can learn alot from them.

i too encounter this prob. its because of the way u play ur finger. Maybe u always practice ur fingering on the 1st - 5th fret ? a healthy way is starting around the 7th to 8th fret. if u continue to do it at 1-3th fret, ur fingers will start to hurt and will encounter difficulties in playing in the long run =)
