i wana design my own dean if my dad allows me.And if nt ill juz order a pre-made dean.im nt realli rich but my father is :) and he supports me playing the guitar:D

i have to agree with tideofblood.

dude, if you do manage to get a custom-made guitar.. cherished it like it was your life.
and hell, you better not be into guitars/music just this minute and over it the next few month. make sure you'll be playing guitars/music for the years to come.

ive seen too many kids with rich father who bought guitar worth a few thousand only to quit playing music a few months later.

and if you were to make your own guitar.. have you learn about the different properties of wood? how the guitar construction will be like? (eg. bolt on neck, set neck, thru-neck, neck thru body) will there be any maple top?

hmm rite now im confused whether i should custom made my own dean or juz get the dean's selling at ranking sport/music theme. Im afraid that if i were to custom order it i wont like the guitar and will stop playing the guitar so its a tough desicion..so wat u guys think should i juz get those retailed guitar or custom make one.and i remember having a friend of mine who made his own custom guitar and doesnt like it and didnt use the ever since.

my suggestion, you should go and try out guitars with certain specs like neckthru/setneck/bolt on, H-H/HSH/HSS/SSS/swimmingpoolroute/HHH, body shape (if you are getting a dean i suppose try a razorback and see if you can withstand the shape for long periods)

then do some research on wood and pickups and then determine which sort of wood you want (Eg mahogany or alder/ash?)

and research all at once what kind of electronics you want, do you want on board booster/distortion? Fernandes sustainer perhaps? how many knobs, are you content with just one sound or do you want versatility? wad kind of wiring? what kind of bridge, do you feel you need the floyd? or a fixed bridge? or string through body for more sustain?

wad kind of fretboard feels most comfortable to you? rosewood, ebony, maple? can try all those out also, and the fret sizes also you need to see if you can get comfortable with it

since you got the budget i hope you won't splurge on looks alone, splurge on looks AND comfortability.

AH I HATE YOU THREADSTARTER!!!

I thought can custom make.....LITERALLY, haha

I suddenly fell in love with dean man....and its so cool they got a lefty range of products...

KUDOS to dean!(and all dean owners!)

I think Malcolm only assembles strats/teles?

Perhaps the threadstarter could give us an idea of what specifications he is looking out for. If the options desired are not too out of the ordinary, perhaps simply modding a stock guitar would suffice. Bear in mind that a purely custom guitar may not be as desirable to the next person, hence a low resale value.
