Crybaby bass wah-change to guitar

Hi guys,

I have a crybaby bass wah, I did a search but didnt find any specifics. I have heard for the bass wah, I can change one resistor and it will be a guitar wah. Anyone done this before?

Thanks!

The 0.01uF cap controls the frequency range. A lower value shifts the wah higher in frequency, while a higher value lowers it. To shift the wah downwards (using more of the woofy bassy wah sounds), try a 0.015 or 0.022uF cap here. BTW, that cap is the only difference between a GCB-95 and a modern JH-1 Jimi Hendrix wah... the JH-1 has a 0.022uF here, instead of the 0.01uF in the GCB-95. Also, if you come across a bass wah cheap, buy it - you only need to change this cap to turn it into a guitar wah (or the other way around)! The standard bass wah uses a 0.068uF cap in this position.

good luck on modding it. :D

thanks! exactly what I was looking for. While Im there I might as well do a true bypass and vocal mod, which ive read about, anyone done these? Experiences?

I've done the mods(vocal, bypass, gain, led and some others that i forgot) and its quite easy, just need patience and some soldering skills. Now my gcb95 sounds more modern, vocal sounding and works very well with distortion without any of the cold shrill highs. The wah effect can now also be heard on higher notes.

btw the photos came from http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/mods/dunlop.htm

No I did not, just used the solder sucker. But having the braid would be quite useful for when the solder sucker does not work in a particular situation.

Finally got around to doing this.

Thought id share my experience. Did the vocal, hendrix capacitor mod and also true bypass. Wah was sounding great for a little while, then switch decided to give way etc, and was too soft. Turns out it was my dodgy soldering, so I went through the whole thing and resoldered everything. Was also a bit quiet, so did the gain mod, but added too much bass, and went back to stock.

At the moment the wah sounds good, but I need more definition, its a bit too muddy and lacks what the original sound(amp and guitar) sounds like. I am thinking of doing the mids mod as well at some stage.

All in all it was a experiment but I have spent many hours on this(including multiple trips to the electrical store), probably better to just get one thats already done IMO.
