Cracked my Taylor... Repairable?

Would like to ask some of you guys opinion before heading out to have some luthiers check out the guitar...

Not sure how it got there, I handle my guitars very carefully...
I noticed the crack there when I wanted to change batteries...

Is the black strip another piece of wood or just something that looks like a tape to cover the joint of the two pieces of wood?
Is it possible that it's a manufacturing defect?

Most importantly, is it repairable?

yikes! Had this happen to a pal of mine too. If its still under warranty, best to bring back to Sinamex.
