Covering Songs = Infringing Copyrights?!?!

How ironic after my last post in this thread, my recent Metallica vid just got taken down LOL...

Apparently these 2 bands are under Warner Bros Records, and Warner Bros just pulled out of youtube. So for fellow softies out there, do take note if you're uploading a video which belongs to Warner Bros, it might just be taken down soon!

I think it all comes down to 1 thing - advertising $.
Most probably youtube makings millions/billions from tagging advertising on their vidz (uploaded by users of course ) and that's why record company want a slice of that pie.

The bottomline is, users who upload cover songs don't make $, but the website they upload to makes plenty of them ;).

basically what you tube is trying to explain is....

1. you cannot publicly broadcast the ORIGINAL work from the ORIGINAL artiste on you tube i.e when you played along with the original track.

2. you can cover the song with your band and post it on you tube..

3. if you start to generate income from your video then the artiste, the publishers, the record company wll hunt you down.

4. you tube is a free for all to view.

5. i hope this helps as i i have endeavored to phrase this in the most simplest form of english........either that or you really sucked in the video...
