copy right

Hmm.

I do believe that you can inquire more at IPOS singapore, located at the same building that's opposite SMU, above the air-conditioned Kopitiam (not directly above, but in that same building, yeah).

I went there with my coursemates since I'm in a design course, and since intellectual property is essential for our future well-being, I can honestly condense the lesson I've learnt from the trip in the following:

If you are confident that your composition can sell and that it will make you more money than what it took to purchase the intellectual property (just for singapore alone because the intellectual property applies only to the country you have applied for it in), then by all means.

However if this is just a hobby for you and you intend to 'copyright' your stuff, essentially whatever you produce has an automatic copyright, but it is not placed in writing nor binded by a contract. Perhaps proof of the date when you had produced that track would be viable in the event that your music really belongs to you.

Just bear in mind that applying with IPOS is costly (can't recall the details, all I know is that when I saw the cost, my reaction was "WAHHH!!!") and for those who look upon music as being a hobby, it would be wise to place your music on website which do not allow auto-matic downloading and / or has a log of who has downloaded your stuff.

Another way is to upload stuff in listenable 'bites' such that it would deter people from ripping off the entire track.

" think CASE can handle that?."

mmm... i think police handle that as well. try call 999 and ask uncle sam about copyright law. :P
