i am thinking of converting a right hand epiphone sg special to left hand, what must i do,

please help me !!!!! coz i am a freaking l eft hander

I suppose you'll either have to change the nut out for one that is cut for a leftie, or you'll have to remove the nut and reinstall it the other way round.

That way, you'll be able to string it properly, like a leftie guitar. My friend does this with leftie guitars, which he converts for right-handed applications.

but the SG is fat at the bottom and the knobs will be in ur way. do try to play it first before u switch it over.

do we need to switch the pickup over as well?

Hey, that's kind of exactly what I do. In fact, it's one of the reasons why I bought the SG. Go for it, it's worth it.

One inconvenience is that while playing sitting down your picking arm might cause one of the volume knobs to turn the volume down occasionally, but it shouldn't be a problem. I took the knob out as a solution, thinking of putting it back during gigs - but I lost it -_-.

i see, thks for advice... it is kind of hard for lefties cause singapore hardly sell any left hand electric guitars zzzz...

i only saw 2 which i sboth strato....

Yea, usually when shops import lefties it's strats. One or two pieces in the whole shop. Actually you can talk to the salespeople and ask if they can help you import a specific lefty along with the rest of their shipment.

Im not a lefty.. just curious for my friend there, how abt the bridge and pickup? need to switch also?

My advise is that, try out as many guitars as you can, find the one that plays comfortable left-handed. Fored is right about the knobs getting into the way (especially during gigs). If you're going for a guitar with tremolo system, you'll have to learn to get used to it. Depending on preference, some people actually prefer the tremelo to be on the above (example SRV). Another thing to take note is the cutaway. Best is to get something of the same cutaway, eg, SG, Ibanez Artiste series, or no cutaway (Flying V), unless your fingers are darn long and can reach the last fret without difficult. The body contour might also be an issue and can be uncomfortable to play with.

I've had my share of experimentation cos I'm a lefty as well. My first electric's a righty Ibanez Artist. Great guitar but with the edge stabbing into arm and accidental knob-turnings, I've found lefty guitars to be so much more comfortable. I've also tried to do a 'Hendrix' by buying a righty strat but I couldn't reach the highest frets due to the cutaway. The strat knobs were rubbing against my arm as well...so, it was sayonara to righty guitars *lol* Now I only look for lefty guitars

Basically, these are just some of the things to take note of if you're really going for a righty guitar. Otherwise, I'd advise getting the local shops to help you import a lefty guitar or order it yourself from some online stores.

erm, why not learn to fret with your left hand and pick with your right hand? if you are just starting out.
but if you have played for quite sometime with a left handed guitar, then i think get a lefty guitar. you have to think long term, if you keep on getting righty guitars and do all those switching to suit your left hand playing. it will cost you a loss of time and some money.
it's true that it's quite hard to get lefty guitars in singapore, maybe you can ask Elias for some advice and opinions.
