Or our very own Gsonique Citrus. <--- Converted me to keep a compressor on my board regardless the situation. Sold a Analogman Comprossor for that~
But then again compressors are different, depending on the circuitry. Some suits some playing styles, some suit different players wants. So you gotta go try some and hear some. Ain't no one answer gonna help you out in my opinion.
i use a barber tone press for "generic" stuff like strumming and chords for church. i set it really subtle and the magic lies in the blend knob. its more of a feel thing rather than a tonal change. for chords it sucks to play without my tonepress on.
and for pedal steel licks or country type licks it squashes very very musically also. too noisy? the blend knob is there to work its magic. its one of the only few compressors i can actually bond with.
I highly recommend the Barber Tone Press too. It was the only compressor pedal that worked well for me, after having tried the Diamond, Analogman and Boss, the others seemed to colour my tone in unfavourable ways (this is of course my own opinion). The price of the tone press is also very reasonable.
Yeah I want a compressor to well..compress my sound. Make it punchier and sustain longer. But most of the compressors I've used add their own sound to my original tone and changes it. This can be a good thing, but it was not.
I need something more compact than the Barber Comp. Got a PT Jr only. Something as good as the barber comp but smaller or more compact in size perhaps?
a clarity mod on a 2nd hand cs-3 might work too. those can get pretty transparent. i've tried the monte allums cs-3 opto plus mod and it doesn't change the original tone much.
