Are those shields and panels the answer to playing drumset in hdb or condo? I read online that they can cut down 90% of the sound, how does it work??? what about the sound on the floor?

Those panels are meant for maximum pick up for the microphones from the sound generated from the kit and eliminating other sounds coming from other instruments from being pick up by the said microphones. In short, they are meant for recording.

How to play drums in HDB/Condo? These are the cost effective ways. The money saved can be invested more on cymbals...

Timber furnishing in the room - bed, cupboard, study table, chair, book shelves.

Thick window curtains.

Thick carpet for the drum kit

Small drum kit or tune it low for the bigger ones.

Thin and dark tone cymbals.

Rods or light drum sticks. Crash the cymbals with the tip.

Change the beater to a soft one for the bass pedal.

Finally, finesse or controlled playing... 8)
