Clean and Blues tone. What equipment?

Hello people. I'm helping my friend to do some reseach here. He's most probably gonna get a electric guitar.

He's into John Mayer stuffs... a hardcore fan of his. Looking for a nice clean tone. Maybe a lil blues element would be nice.

So which kind of guitar should he get? Strat? Tele? etc? And how bout the amp? A amp with built in efx would be nice, nothing fancy.

He thought of getting a fender. Any recommandations?

Thank you! :)

A Classic 50's reissue Strat with a Blues Junior full tube amp. That's it! Guitar and Amp... the rest is all in the fingers and whole lotta soul!
:D

mmmm a Fender Strat MIJ. add a nice smooth overdrive like one of the tubescreamers and you're good to go.

id say get a jap strat from ishibashi. the ones with the texas special pickups. and get either the fender pro/blues junior or the carvin vintage 16 amp. should manage to squeeze all this into the budget and a plus that everything is first hand.

Japan Fender Strat and the Vintage 16 should do it for 1.6k if you buy everythign new. Might have a little bit left for a pedal to push the front end a bit.

can get a ST-45 for about $800 at luther. and if you don't mind look out for a 2nd hand piece at this price but better build. i think there was a couple of them selling at luther class ad.

Fender Strat, as for exact model it would depend on your friends though he might want to look at the Big Dippers or Texas Special. 3 x Single Coils is a must.

Amp wise, John Mayer uses Two Rock. But I think any Fender amp should have good enough clean to get him there. I pretty like the Deluxe Reverb though.

800? That's cheap. Where did you guys see it?

The last time I checked was at guitar gallery. Saw their webbie it was 1.1k
