Choosing rides!

Here's the scenario for you to base your opinion on... :)

1) You play music specifically from the Pop/Rock, R&B, Jazz Genres...

2) You have 2 rides (20 inch) to choose from (it's a pity, but only a single choice is allowed)

2.1) Ride no.1- A Bosphorus Dry ride

2.2) Ride no.2- An A Custom Ping ride

3) Your current cymbal configuration:
-A Custom Fast Crash (16)
-K Dark Crash (16 )
-A China Boy (18 )
-A Custom splash (8 )
-K splash (8 )
-A New Beat Hi-Hats (14)

I personally prefer the A Custom Ping Ride cos of its distinctiveness (bias towards A customs in general :P), moreover, its bell is sounding sweet! And, the music I play would require more use of it's brighter sounds (compared to e dry ride).

But, I've tried the bosphorus ride before, and I find it really suitable esp. for jazz. It's also a cheaper alternative from the constantinoples... Nicely dry sounding...

So, regardless of your own personal choices in other cymbals, which of the two would the rest of you choose, and why?

Cheers~

Does it have to be either of that two? If not, try something more versatile, such as the AAX Stage ride or the A sweet ride...

But if it has to be either of each... Well, I've never heard the Bosphorus, but you did mention Constantinoples right? If its anywhere remotely close to the heavenly sound of the Constantinoples, then, what are you waiting for? Get it!

On the other hand, the A custom would serve you well like you've mentioned. But make sure the wash is sufficient for your softer and mellower playing needs

Yea, a friend of mine is selling his bosphorus ride... But I already have the ping. So, just wanted to see what other drummers would do if put in a similar predicament.

Heh, but yea... The K. constantinoples sound really gd... You can hear Louis Soliano play it at the Ritz.

Guess I would grab the bosphorous if not for financial constrains.=P

Did you know that the K. Constantinoples were created because alot of Zildjian artists fell in love with Paiste traditionals? They were bitching non-stop about it and Zildjian relented (of course they did, otherwise they'd lose so many big name endorsees).

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go for the A custom... but not a ping. I'd use the one Vinnie C's using... forgot what it was.

But if I REALLY could choose anything... I'd go for a Sabian Evolution ride.

Kinda torn between using Weckl or Colaiuta's sound. These two are absolute monsters with a sound to die for.

Agreed hands down... Heh, reminds me of one of Wired's exchanges with some other guy abt showmanship.

According to Zildjian.com, Vinnie's currently using a 22 inch A custom ride...

Thanks for your insights! What're the highlights of the Sabian Evolution ride?

It's the most beautiful ride I've ever heard. Defined stick click, tone is kinda dry, quite a bright sounding cymbal despite being made for jazz/fusion gigs, meaning that it's versatile enough for pop/rock gigs. Oh yeah, it has a killer bell, damn high pitched, cuts through anything. High crashability too. It's 20 inches and looks like a dream.

actually i think the bosphorous should suit fine for all the genres u mentioned! unless you're doing really hard rock loh.

:P u can always take my stage ride. i'll settle for the bosphorous...
