Choosing an electric guitar

It's always smart not to be fooled by those high-end guitars that easily cost you a bomb. Just looking for views on how to choose an electric guitar. Basically you look at pickups, fretboard material, and maybe fret size to suit different styles. What are your favourite combination?

if you feel comfortable with an instrument and think it sounds and looks good, its a good guitar. i think its a very personalised thing when it comes to the definition of a "good guitar"
