Chijazz 2010 (Jazz Fest) at Chijmes (nearest mrt: Raffles City mrt)
Chijazz, the annual chillout jazz affair at the intimate enclave in the heart of town, Chijmes, returns on the 11 Dec 2010 from 7pm – 10.30pm at the Chijmes Lawn. This free event promises a night of smooth grooves under the stars, featuring a stellar line-up of regional artists like Olivia Ong, Tay Kewei, Boni & BDS Jazz Orchestra and Angelita Li.
Olivia Ong will perform popular jazz standards, as well as some hits from her current album, Olivia. Some notable tracks are You And Me (composed by Dick Lee) and Bittersweet.
Other acts include Tay Kewei with a few numbers from her current album, Come Closer...With Kewei. Songs are 可不可以(This Too Shall Pass) and Love Story (Where Do I Begin?) but re-arranged into big band jazz styles and accompanied by the BDS jAZZ Orchestra, led by the inimitable Boni de Souza.
Boni will also be leading the BDS jAZZ Orchestra (featuring the incomparable Wendy Low on flute) with jazzy as well as Latin jazz renditions of popular jazz classics like A Night In Tunisia.
Angelita Li from Hong Kong will be kicking up a storm with her samba band that consists of arguably the best local musicians in the Asian music scene. These musicians have played with the biggest regional stars like A-Mei, JJ Lin, David Tao, Wang Lee Hom etc. Angelita, a heavyweight in her own right, has been featured on many jazz festivals all over the world and also recorded backing vocals for many HK singers.
Boni will be back to round off the evening with a jam session open to any musicians game enough to jam with the best in the local jazz scene.
