Changing Hardware and Cleaning Rust

Hi Soft,

Recently acquired a secondhand guitar that required A LOT of cleaning.

Its an Epiphone G-400 SG and all metal parts were rusted. Grover tuning heads were extremely oxidized and the bridge I thought I could clean up but upon closer inspection the saddles were completely corroded and I would not use it again.

Have cleaned up the frets and fretboard and oiled the guitar but I think I need a replacement bridge. What brands would you recommend that are good and inexpensive and also, how do I know the exact size for the bridge and if the bridge I buy will fit? Any suggestions for a replacement SG bridge?

Also wondering on how to clean the rust as I do not intend to replace the tuners or the toggle switch or the input jack and pickguard screws etc.

Have heard stories about replacement bridges making the guitar much more toneful but those were with callaham $200 bridges. Please advise thanks.

despite the condition, switches & i/p jacks should go if they hinder connectivity.

as for your tune-o-matic bridge, bring the dead piece to the shops & get an exact replacement regardless of the brand. good stuff are available at Davis/ SV guitars & these are not costly.

i'm using Turtle's chrome polish for stubborn stains on metal parts- works well, recommended.

Since Its an Epiphone G-400 SG, it's a fixed bridge so bring your Epi to TYMC & ask them for a TOM replacement that will fit. I find their prices very reasonable. If not, measure the spacing yourself & find a brand that fits.
As for the rust, not much you can do except remove all the parts & sand them down with 0000 steel wool. If your input jack & toggle switch is rusty, you may encounter contact issues, so I will probably replace those.
