hi, what cds in your opinion is a must-have album for any drummer to have and would also surely be impressed by it? thanks cause im really in need of more exposure.

Haha i like a few bands cause of the consistent and catchy beat. The drum's are pretty outstanding at that.

Dreamtheatre cause of mike portnoy, rush - neil peart, frank zappa - terry bozzio, matchbook romance, train. some jazz like billy cobham, dave weckl, soulive, john coltrane - drummer roy haynes, pat metheny.

thats good..

for jazz - dave weckl could be a start since your a drummer
for rock (depends on whether you like crazy drumming or simple steady ones), the crazy ones could be like dreamtheatre, slipknot. steady beats like osi, mullmuzzler. these are all pretty noisy stuff which i dont really listen to. just bought train - for me its you, and the drums are simple and good.
haha i dont really know about other genres

He already has quite a few dream theater cds(and one LTE cd) plus Mike Portnoy's Led Zeppelin tribute cd! :D

uninaminously, Dream Theater. all their cds. even if you don't like their music just listen for the skill. but i think for drumming, (or any musician, for that matter) what's important is to expose yourself to many many different genres. just listen to everything. you'll find stuff that you like. there isn't really any type of music you can recommend for drumming, just go for anything and everything, really. but for now, Dream Theater is definitely worth your money.

for dream theater you cannot just listen to a few songs here and there that people recomend. i did that and i thought they were just dumb, cause everything sounded technical and pointless.

but then i got hold of a dream theater cd. Scenes from a memory. then i was blown away. they are one of my favourite bands now. the songs are interconnected and unique. some very nice to headbang to :D

It took me one year to click with them! :D They are absolutely my favourite band now! :D

haha i only heard some tracks like dance of eternity, hell's kitchen cause i liked some parts of the big medley thing -featured on drummerworld 2003. pretty cool stuff but i fall asleep on the song hahaha. no offence.

sorry come to think of it, i do listen to some of them. but notdreamtheatre, only their side projects like the on with neal morse, osi, mullmuzzler, night with jorden rudess and john petrucci, etc. i dont listen to liquid tension experiment also, haha sounds like dreamtheatre.

Do try getting Time Out by Dave Brubeck Quartet, a must-buy if you're trying to get into the easier-listening side of jazz.

Aside from Dave Weckl/Dave Weckl Band as mentioned, do check out Dennis Chamber's Planet Earth, Billy Cobham's Best Of (practically any track by this man is awesome), and Simon Phillips' Another Lifetime.

For stuff that are less fusion orientated, there's always Jimmy Chamberlin Complex too. :D

amen to that. scenes from a memory is really good. the story and all. i think it's their best after Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.
