Carpet for pedalboard

Hey guys, need to re-carpet my board,

any idea where i can get some real heavy-duty carpet to use? best if you've got the location as well, or some examples of places where i might be able to find em.

Also, what kind of adhesive should one use?

Lastly, any step-by-step guides or rough guides on how to do so?

Would appreciate some help, i ran a search but didnt come across much except to get the carpet from contractors throwing out unused carpet..

God Bless,
James

I'm using velcro brand industry strength velcro. I usually buy the 4ft box where the velcro stripe is about 2inches in width. I used all the unused "loop" side to replace my carpet. Total I used up 3 boxes (12ft) to completely cover my whole board. It's not hard to DIY, just need some planning n calculation. You wouldn't have to worry about buying adhensive as the velcro's sticky side is pretty strong, if u clean the surface of the board. So far I have no problems.

But its white right? haha, i prefer something black, also the adhesive of the industril strength velcro came off on one of my pedals recently. =/ so yeah, im more keen on a one-piece solution as it should hold together better I.E pulling out pedals, one strip might come out, but i think the one-piece of carpet will hold better.

Nope, mine is black. Take a trip down to homefix and search. =)

With regards to adhensive coming off pedals, I found that it usually occurs if the pedal's base is dirty, or perhaps it's second hand n the previous owner had ripped off the velcro leaving behind some sticky residue. As long as u clean the surface throughly, it shouldn't be a problem. I have the velcro on my board for almost 6 months and no problems so far.

Alright! :D Thanks for your input bro, really appreciate it.

I'll hold on for awhile to see if anyone else has other solutions, if not i'll prolly go down that road.

oh btw, the last time i bought velcro, i needed to buy both sides, is this the case here as well? haha.

Cheerio!

Alright, thanks loads bro!

haha yeah, i guess it would be detrimental to their velcro sales if they let us buy only one side. Most of us would buy only the hook side and leave them with a never-ending amount of loop side velcro!

BTW, what board did ya use the velcro on?

Cheerio.

i used to use velcro but velcro on velcro is a very strong grip. which is good but bad if you like moving your stuff around. plus i dont think it looks very nice having strips of it.

im frm m'sia so i cant recommend any shops in particular but i went to one of those furniture shops that does wall to wall carpeting and got an extra piece. as for adhesive you'll need special carpet glue. its thick and yellow and comes in like those small paint tins and smells really nice :) the furniture shop might sell it for those ppl who wanna diy they're own carpeting otherwise a hardware shop shuld have it.

cant remember if i have any pics of that board cos iv since switchd to a misse case but it worked fine. used to chuck the whole board in a big bag and carry that around. carpet actually holds stronger than the felt like thing they use in pedal cases. but not as strong as the hook part of velcro (which like i said earlier, i find too strong)

okays hope that helped :)

okay.. haha. When i have some free i time i ought to pop by ikea and other shops to find the stuff then!

Thanks!

I carpeted my board. Used 1 and a half pieces (they came in 1.5x1.5 feet squares). On the board you cant see the lining unless you look real close!

To place the carpeting, i ripped out the original piece of felt that was already on. It felt too thin and weak to hold my heavier pedals (i used to own a j&h). Used shoe glue to hold the carpet in place. IMHO any strong adhesive should do the job as long as you apply enough amounts and spread it evenly.

My advice would be to use 'new carpet', not those which have been stepped on for years. Not sure whether that would have an effect on the holding strength of the board.

darf, did you use industrial strength velcro?

I ripped the carpet off my board today.

theres what seems to be a cardboard layer between the carpet and the real wood bottom of the board. hmmm.

Actually i'm still not sure whether the velcro i use is 'industrial' T_T
But i guess it's what everyone uses (?)

So far it's been holding up my dd-20 well

i was really kiasu after re-carpeting, so i went to buy this

Never had so much trouble trying to pull something off my board

about the cardboard layer, i really cant remember whether i had the same problem
You might wanna check out how thick/absorbant it is

There's a chance you could let it absorb the glue and not worry about it anyway

aight, thanks. i pm-ed several guys on tgp.

One guy got the large velcro sheets from stompin-ground.com (where i got my wah mounting plate from)

one other guy used industrial strength

and the last guy used automotive carpet.
